There are many similarities between snow shoeing and writing.
After a deep snowfall the fresh white snow presents many possibilities in all directions.

I love the ability of having untroden paths underfoot, looking at vast expanses of pureness, just awaiting wherever I might go.

It is the same when we push the 'New Thread' sign on the website. What presents before us is clean untrodden space filled with possibility.Sometimes the journey is smooth and relaxed,at other times it may feel as if we are traversing through five foot drifts.Whatever the result it is the pure creativeness in both pasttimes that is exhilirating. It is the indelible,'now' equally mixed with our 'us-ness' and the gentle fingertips of the Creator as we boldly attempt yet again white, clean space.

One of my favorite Winter workouts is snow shoeing. When the snow is deep and you are moving at a good clip it can be tremendous workout.Usually once I have walked for an hour or so,I take a break for water(many people forget that Winter time is very dry actually and you must hydrate),once done I do the M7.After this I take off my rope belt and do iso's.

You must be very carefull here though.I am definately of the mind that we should travel in nature without disturbing as much as possible. If I am not careful in taking off my belt I could very well have my pants around my ankles. It is disturbing enough having a human being in the wild, but the above said scenario might evoke panic and a mass exodus of animals(lol).

Once done I belt up again and continue the journey. The sky is deep blue, the sun slants rays that appear to cast billions of diamonds across the feilds on top of the clean fresh snow.I look behind sometimes to see where I have come from,to see the blank feilds marred by characteristic snowshoe patterns.

Looking ahead so many possibilities, any trail I cut,a good one.Any thought new for this day spread across this pregnant moment right here, right now....

peace,
jason

Thank you Nathan!

I appreciate your kind words! Anyone else Snow shoe?

I was thinking of you gruntbrain and those that don't have snow.Last year when I was in Florida I would practise moving against the waves while bodysurfing. Running back and forth in the water while waiting for the next wave is a great workout,as well as catching the next wave and immediately getting up and sprinting back into the water(good workout also shows you how generally insignifigant you are in the grand scheme of things).

Another is walking in thick sand, not finely packed or running. You can also drag your feet in the sand and kind of mimic snow shoeing.

I remember sweetness(Walter Payton)used to do hill sprints in the sand. Many pro football players flew down to train with Walter only to say after a couple of days,'Gee Walter I think,ah yah,gee I have an appointment I have to get to I forgot or er,umm the dog ate my homework?' Intense workout.

Anywho if you are ever in the great north, try snowshoeing-great workout and you can enjoy the scenery at a slow or fast measured pace.

peace,
jason
