So I was walking through the sporting goods store today and saw the big Perfect Push-Up(PP) display. Every sporting goods store these days seem to have the PP sacked sky high, but there was something new there! It's a new product called Perfect Counter.
Guess what it does.
You got it! It's a push-up counter!!
It's basically soft plastic and foam cup you put under your chest when you do push-ups and every time your chest hits it, it adds one rep to the count. It also has a timer built in, so you can set it for 30 seconds, a minute or an hour and no more need to keep track of you numbers! It works great because you set the timer and as soon as you do the first rep it starts counting automatically.
It's also designed to work with the PP, so it's pretty high off the ground, making it work well with the Power T's! If you do Atlas Push-ups you can put the counter under a few books to raise it high enough.
It also comes with a little instruction poster like the PP does. On the poster is gives you a few times and rates you based on how many push-ups you can do in that time. The highest level is "Legend" To be a Legend you have to do 60+ in 2 minutes, 500+ in an hour.
I bet pound for pound, we have more legends on this forum than anywhere else on the net!
Know it and Own it!

Hey Joe,
That is pretty dang cool my friend. I am sure this would be really helpful for people that that have a tendency to lose count (and yes I do this myself sometimes!) Anyway thanks for sharing and God bless.

P.S. I am in total agreement with your last statment my friend. I positive we have more legends here than anywhere on the net!

Well, when you're doing hundreds of push-ups mixed in with DVRs, DSRs and ISOs it does get really easy to lose count.
Maybe that's why 10 reps is so common for weight lifters, they can't count any higher!
:rotfl:

P.S. I'm only kidding!!!! Don't get on my case for a joke!

You could stack it on some books so that that your butt would hit when you squatted! Just wash it afterward

Hey, I don't know much about a counter, but if you want to do more pushups (or anything else) try having your "coach" use this.....(ZAP)

Nathan, I can't tell you how many times my friends and I got into cattle prod fights either during Ag or when we were working cattle. It does hurt pretty good but it is a whole lot of fun when you hear someone yelp when you get a good hit on them!
Your friend,

I've seen those push-up counters before, and I think they have some benefit.
Recently, I was watching the sports challenge show "Unbeatable Banzuke" where Japanese athletes compete in unusual challenges like riding a unicycle over an obstacle course, or trying to complete a series of challenges whilst walking on their hands. Eccentric character actor Brian Blessed (King Vultan in the 1980 film Flash Gordon) narrates proceedings dressed like a cross between a lobster and a samurai!
One of the best parts is when they have a push-up competition, using the same device as we've seen. However, I did notice one thing that may be important. The competitors often would perform their push-ups with their butts in the air, so their chins were closer to the button. In the end, they'd just be bobbing down an inch or so, and headbutting the button with their chins!
Point being - it may be easy to slip into poor form when trying to raise numbers, without realizing you're "cheating". I'm sure it's useful, but make sure you're always maintaining flawless form.
That said, I rely on the tried and tested method of having a friend or girlfriend place their fist on the floor and touching that with my chin or shoulder. They can also check my form at the same time. Then we change places!

I suppose the pushup counter can also serve as a counter for FULL squats. Perhaps Free will report in on both uses.
As an aside, a BOSU Ball works well for Box Squats.
Well.. I got mine, and it is pretty cool. Good for testing and timing but I wouldn't use it for day to day pushups, it is just kind of gets in the way. I would say, at the price Mad got one for, it is well worth it, but I would pass if you have to pay full retail unless you have the disposable income. Squats would be rather tough, unless you put it on a chair, or a bench, and then you might just knock it off. Anyway, a fun gizmo.

Having something that keeps you honest is a good idea; ie, something that ensures a desired ROM. The expensive BOSU Ball is stable & works well for pushup & squat touches

hey, Im tempted to purchase this. how well does it work for normal floor push ups? also is the base flexable where you could maybe roll it up to shorten it, cause it looks maleable...hmm thanks guys for any input...you know I have one of those metal clicker counters I use to use it worked farely well...but kinda hinder palm stabilty and took some focus away...but its workable.

SB,
It's flexible but still fairly ridged. You wouldn't be able to roll it up.
You couldn't do regular floor push-ups with it, it's too high. You have to use stands. It's designed for the height of the Perfect Push-Ups.
