John,
You've mentioned many times how you started as a child with Transformetrics as did your Uncles. Could you give advice to a father of 2 boys (ages 10 & 7) and 1 girl (age 5) on how to get them started with this type of exercising. What age should they really start and should they just do DVR's and maybe calisthenics?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon

I think that kids will probably get the hang of callisthenics far quicker than DVRs or DSRs. Just getting them into the habit of enjoying physical activity, regardless of whether or not its some sort of organised program, is a great idea.
My dad got me to run around and play, and just have fun - that was the goal, not to play football or do gym. As I got older, I soon found what I liked and disliked, and took it from there.

I think it is important that your kids want to exercise. Its easy to plant that seed if your kids see you working out and include them. The other ideas provided are great. I'll have to try the deck of cards with my own kids. I have tried to get my oldest son into exercising and he is just not interested yet. It doesn't have a purpose for him yet. He has begun taking Tae Kwan Do, and I think that this might be the thing that helps him to realize the importance of being strong, flexible and quick. More is heard when you show them, than when you tell them. Good luck.
At least for boys long winded discussions of health benefits and physiology probably won't be the best but 'can you do this?' and contests are great. In 8th grade i was skinny and unathletic but a PE teachers introduction to pullups and pushups were the first steps to showing me that there were physical things to do that didnt involve throwing balls around.

All,
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I do like the deck of cards game and will give that a try. I would agree that leading by example is the best way and I'm working towards that now since I'm new to Transformetrics but have always enjoyed body-weight only excercising even though I wasn't aware there was such a large group of people who subscribe to it.
Again, appreciate your feedback and best of luck with your own kids! They'll certainly be different from most youths today if they embrace this.
Thanks,
Jon

Phys Ed is not stressed that much in school these days. Too bad, since many young people would benefit from a daily dose of pushups, situps and squats.
Transformetrics may be just what they need.
I saw an infommercial about children who needed discipline and someone who had a "1 minute cure". I wonder how many kids just do not have a good outlet for all their youthful energy? The video games they play aren't exercise. Parks and playgrounds are empty. Seldom do I see kids riding bikes.
Get 'em on the program!
