Hello Fellow Forum members,
I had been working on a post about “doing God’s will.” I was timid about sending it because I wasn’t sure anyone would be interested. Then today I had a dream that I think confirms that I should send in the post:
Dream 22Feb09:
I was with a group of believers. I can’t recall everything, but I think it was the care group and I think we were on horses racing somewhere. The main point was the urgency of getting there. In the next scene, I was with the principal of the Messianic school and he was racing to get the kids home. There was the same urgency as when we were on the horses. At some point in the dream all of us from the care group were looking in the dictionary to find the right word. When we found it, we really grasped it. It was close to “eager” but I can’t remember it. It was something like “urgent” but I’m not sure that was exactly it. As were we delivering the kids to their homes, the van was going very fast, but there was nothing dangerous about it. It was just very important to get the kids home. When I woke up, these words came to mind: They rush on the city, they run on the wall, for great is the army that carries out His word.
Joel 2:7 (King James Version)
7They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
I believe that God is confirming the urgency of His children and His army doing His will. And I believe God is confirming that it is urgent for His children to come home, to dwell in Jesus, God’s house, because when they dwell there, they will do God’s will.
Colossians 2:9 (King James Version)
9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
John 14:20-21 (King James Version)
20At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Here is that post (shortened from the original):
If I told you God brought me to Heaven (in a dream), you might imagine that He showed me all manner of wonderful creatures: angels, cherubim, serufim; or the majesty of the galaxies; or a panorama of past, present, and future events from the Bible. But none of that was shown to me. Instead, God showed me something very simple: His will.
Psalm 133:1 (King James Version)
1Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Matthew 22:36-40 (King James Version)
36Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
I was in a room just like a room on earth. The difference between that room and an earthly room was that that room was perfect: it was solid and stately and contained good things to do. I saw Jesus there along with my four younger children and myself. The difference between my children in that room and my children on earth was that they were in harmony. And of course, in that room Jesus was present bodily.
To think that God would transport me into His world and show me something as basic as what is written in His Word. Our relationship with each other is of supreme importance to God, second only to our relationship to Him. Doing God’s will in our relationships with our brethren is more important to God than all the suns, moons, stars, planets, and created beings in the universe.
God’s will is so supremely important that it is the first thing God showed me in His house. (This is connected with God's love, but - Lord willing - I will explore that in more detail in another post.)
Luke 11:2 (King James Version)
2And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
This is the most powerful prayer in the universe. God’s will is defined in Heaven. God has given us prayer as a tool to draw down His will from Heaven to earth.
There are many more important insights from this dream, but I will leave them for another time.
For now, I would like to leave with you the idea that Heaven is not about fanciful creatures or otherworldly landscapes: God’s house in Heaven is the blueprint for God’s will in the earth. We pray according to the Lord’s Prayer to make the things of Heaven real in the earth. When we do God’s will, He rewards us with His love.
A few things to think about… Comments and questions are welcome.
