Does anyone use VRT for developing flexibility? E.g. to do splits, etc.
I have seen quite a few studies done on strength / muscle size increase using visualization, but what about flexibility using, say, visualized split?

Greg,
To be honest with you, I haven't seen anyone use VRT exclusively to enhance flexibility. I do know that the process of visualization itself does increase flexibility however.
Tony Robbins in his "Personal Power" audio tape course describes this situation: "Stand with feet and body facing forward. Do not move your feet, only twist your upper body. Hold out your right arm and twist your whole body to the right, as far as you can. When you are able to go no further, remember where you are pointing in reference to the wall or some other object."
"Now, visualize in your mind that you are able to twist much further then where you stopped. Now again twist your body, same as before, with feet facing forward and your arm outstretched, and you will have gone much further! This is a very demonstrative exercise of the power of visualization!"
VRT or DVR could be used for increasing flexibility if used in creative ways, if one can develop an exercise to their liking.

Joint mobility drills done with VRT is a way to promote flexibility. Such an approach results in STRENGTH flexibility. Being in extreme positions without having strength can result in injury

I can tell you in my experience that DVR'S and Tiger Moves(mirscle seven along with isometris have definitely helped with my flexibility (My former judo teacher used wood man or something to that effect because I was so stiff)anyway with my feet close together I can just about put my palms flat on the floor. This is not to brag.I believe the tension and release of the exercises really6 help.I don't do flexibility exercises.I'm going on 52 and my flexibility is way better then when I was younger-Kevin
