I'm trying to work my way up to 100 in a row. Curious what the rest of you are up to, number-wise.
I'll test my max tomorrow. I'm guessing I should be able to do somewhere around 30 at this point.

Viking;
I do sets of 50 most often, but for variety I will also have certain days where I do sets of 25 at a slow pace and really flex the traps and lats in the down position. This works for me.
I am more concerned with the total for the day so 4 sets of 50 is considered a decent day. These are done with squats and crunches in between. Then comes DSR's followed by DVR's. Finally I'll do Isometric contractions.
Although John mentions the Kiveloff method of Iso's - 90 second workout - done throughout the day, I usually just do them in the AM while waiting for the train to arrive. (I believe I am discreet enough that no one else notices.)

OK. Tested my max today. If it matters, I do the level 2 where my feet are at the level of my hands (I put my feet on the end of my old weight bench(about the only thing I use the weight bench for now ;)) and my hands on two chairs.)
Got 24 in almost a minute on the nose. A bit short of the 30 I guesstimated, but not too shabby. I'd like to be able to do 100 consecutive for the new year, so it looks like I have a ways to go. Judging by the poll results, I need to light a fire under my butt to catch up to some of you guys. :fingers-crossed:

Viking;
What's your overall fitnes goal? I know guys you claim to be able to do 100 pushups, but they're rahter skinny. If you are after a more muscular look, try doing them in sets with 100 - 200 as your daily goal. Ten sets of 15 will get you to 150 in the course of a day. You'll be suprised with the results.
I seldom try to max out on Atlas pushups, but get great results from doing sets of 50. Last night I cranked out 200 and feel absolutely great today. (4 sets of 50 in about 45 minutes. Squats and DSR's and ISO's rounded out the workout)

I am doing the pushup challenge this year and am exclusively doing Atlas pushups. I vary the height of my feet using four cinder blocks in various combinations. My usual protocol is sets of 50 followed by deep breathing until my breath comes back to normal. Then, repeat until the desired quantity for the day is complete.
However, a month ago I just decided to keep going past 50. I hit 100 consecutive and I believe I could have gotten at least 20 more. But, one of my tenets in this challenge is to never max out a set. Perhaps next year I will take a day of rest and then see what my max set would be. That would be interesting to discover.

How many do you usually do in a day?

Today, I will do 306. Add one each day. Most days I complete the workout before work, before the daily brisk walk with my dog. If pressed for time, I will split the workout into two sessions, but that is not preferred.

Some great folks here led me to the above link last year. I made the decision to go for the Challenge in 2008. Several folks at work joined me. They dropped out between Feb and March. There is a fellow in England that I correspond with that is still in it with me.
