hears a few tips if you live in a neighbourhood that has the odd drive by shooting
1 Move to another house, area,
2 don't live next to a gang member or club house ( you may get hit by over spray)
3 if possible sleep in a room furtherest away from the gunfire
4 if you sleep in the front room & you hear gunfire roll out oof bed , don't stand up , or infront of your bedroom window.( making yourself a target)
5 hit the floor & crawl on your stomach to the futherst place away from the gunfire , put as many walls between you & the shooters,( this will stop or at least slow down the bullets)
6 have phones that are mobile ( hands free around the house0 so you can easily find one & take it with you.)

had one out the front years ago & a couple up the road the other night,

g'day took my class outside tonight & taught them how to spot , find adequate cover when under fire. also showed them what will stop various kinds of weapons fire from pistol rounds, rifle & machine gun rounds.
I also showed them how to use folds in the ground or a gutter Kerb)if need be in an emergeny for imediate cover.
We then went inside out of the dark to the training hall & i showed them how to drop out of bed with out making yourself a bigger target.
They then had to crawl about 30 feet making their body as low a possible to the ground, yet still keeping mobility getting your bum out of the roonm without it getting shot off.

I've been under fire a few times from rifles & machine guns . It is a quick way to instantly learn that you want to be as small, flat & invisible as possible in seconds.
i think that the class thought i was joking at first till i pointed out that in the last year there had been about 3drive bye's.
I& if your neighbour is dealing drugs or has family in crime or gang related stufff then it is a fair chance that a drive bye could find its way to your neighburhood.

& now we even get crims opening fire in Mc donlads car parks or outside of hotels & shooting patrons.
these skills are worth knowing , why because you don't always get a choice when the other guy is going to open up & start firing.

& even if they are not shooting at you alot of bullets miss their targets & keep on going till they either finally run out of energy or hit something or someone else. this subject might well be worth examining here , what do you think.

Great Topic Digger. Thanks for the advice. My daughter lives on a college campus about 10 minutes from a neighborhood well known for drive by shootings. In fact it is the neighborhood that inspired the movie "Gran Torino". I hear about many drive by shootings by other neighborhoods as well and some victims are kids who are innocently riding their bikes or they were wearing gang colors and didn't even think about it or simply doing their homework at the kitchen table. Sadly some were young family members of gang members or drug buyers. Mostly innocent people getting hurt. This is a good topic to discuss but I don't have any answers. This would be a learning topic for me.

Larry what great advice or comments do you have??

Hi All,

It is great to back. I got stuck in Seattle a few days because of the volcano that continues to erupt up here in Alaska. Grant, thanks for the excellent response to Kottie's question. Some excellent advice that can save your life. Grant I sure do like the type of training you do, hopefully we can meet some day to exchange ideas and some great times. Kottie thanks tor the great questions and ideas, keep up the good work. I will be hosting a tournament this weekend followed with a barbique, the weather is supposed to be 25 degrees. I have 15 foot snow drifts in front of my school. It should be interesting.

Be safe, your friend, Larry

When violence is the dominate force in a neighborhood, it’s certainly the time to leave. Unfortunately, moving out of the neighborhood isn’t always an option. And the situation is especially difficult for young people who have to attend bad schools.

In bad neighborhoods life becomes coarse. It’s always a matter of always having to watch your back. And certainly one can’t count upon the authorities. In most cases, the best that can be hoped for is that the police will catch a criminal after the fact. In most cases, police won’t be on hand to save you from an ongoing criminal act.

Staying alert is critically important. It’s also wise to stay out of bars, if you can manage that. And when the shooting starts, don’t stick around to see how it all turns out. Vacate the area if you can. If that isn’t possible, hit the ground at the first sound of gun fire.

If your have a firearm, be ready to deploy it.

I recently read a blog from a fellow in Argentina. Times are hard down there, to say the least. Have a look:
