The VRT booklet and video recommend that two sets of 8 reps be performed on each exercise. I have noticed that the basic routine on PYTP recommends two sets of 5 reps for heavy intensity. Should the sets and reps be changed with VRT for heavy intensity/muscle mass/ hypertrophy?

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your interest. As an overall view, when writing the illustrated course, there wasn't a high intensity format developed as of yet in regards to visualized resistance. Eight reps was what I had judged (as an experiment of one) to be a good level of muscle 'burn' and vasocongestion. However, HIT as we've come to know it through the knowledge and writings of Royce, has a shorter number of repititions. All of this is arbitrary to the individual, of course. Give 5 reps a try, and in an HIT protocol, if you can do 8, than give that a try.

hey VRT Man,

I'm with you my friend. After having performed the VRT Method exactly the way that you advise with high tension utilized on the positive or forward motion and very light tension(just enough to maintain a smooth motion) on the return, I absolutely achieved a better pump just as you suggested that I would. For that reason I would recommend that anyone consider your recommendations for higher repetitions.

I'll continue with the two sets of eight reps.

Thanks,
