tony jaa is going to be the next jackie chan so everyone says because of him doing his own dangerous stunts in his movies. If you haven't seen his ong bak 1 movie and tom yum goong , you should check it out. it's cool action flick. Just recently his latest movie ong bak 2 is put on youtube with eng subs. just search ong bak 2 eng. that one kick butt most action flick out there. i don't know if they will release it to the state though even though a certain movie company bought the rights. they didn't release many screens when first ong bak came out or tom yum goong. it was limited. not to mention the cuts that american company makes to the original movie. must be there way to limit success of foreign films so general won't know about it.
I'm sure tony jaa don't use weights to train too as his physique is more of isometric bruce lee type. all martial arts training i assume. don't worry. ong bak 2 isn't continuation of ong bak. I would say his best stunts movie show so far. the action fights are out of this world and put american action flick to shame. i'm probably exaggerating but its way up there.
I can only dream to even do half of what he does with those martial moves.

I watched the special features a couple of years ago and Tony Jaa talked about his life and his training (briefly). He was a stuntman but could not break in as a lead actor so he went back home in the country. He then trained with his friends in the jungle for a couple years and perfected many of the moves you see in the first movie. There was no mention of weights or "advanced" training techniques.

It seems many martial artist like jet li and jackie chan as well as tony jaa don't use weights as they don't have the luggage luxury to carry them around. they tend to use their environment and own body weight for training. I do know that jackie and jet lie train for endurance and flexibility strength as their focus.
even if those martial artist use weights, they would use weights as an added bodyweight movements rather than lifting the weight with examples such as ankle weights added or wrist weight added and possibly carrying the weights while moving with whole body like stepping up or down a bench or pulling and pushing heavy weight and maybe carrying buckets of water. they use weights in a safe manner not like lifting them
I would assume they do a lot of endurance training, balance and plyometrics with body movements due to martial training.
Its another great move from Tony Jaa!
I liked Ongbak 1,but ongbak 2 is much better because of the different kind of fingthing styles you can find in each fight.
there was an interview with Tony just after ongbak 1 came out and i think he mentioned something about his workout wich containd mostly of cardio and Push ups and pull ups etc!

i'm awaiting ong bak 3. argh!!!! due to time constraint on ong bak 2, he didn't get to finish telling his story. hence, ong bak 3 will continue where ong bak 2 left off. those fight scenes were off the hook on creativity.
just like him mixing different martial styles and being flexible depending on his opponent. we too can mix different exercise systems depending on our progress.
he got great endurance doing those fight scenes nonstop.

Hi Sillypup
Just went on e-bay and watched a trailer for ong bak 2, it looked okay, not a patch on the original. It looked as if there were more stunts than martial arts.
Now i know that tony jaa is known for his stunts as well as his martial arts skill, and i do like his movies as i own some of them.
The trailer looked as if he is doing what jackie chan did years ago, i hope that i am wrong about this as i enjoy tony jaa's films, i suppose i will have to wait and see.
All the best.
KEITH JAMES.

Hi Guys
I would say that from his physique that he does not look like he has done any type of weight training, then again for him to keep that flexible i would think that tony jaa would benefit from the exercises that are used on this forum.
Check him out on you tube, there is great demonstration of his abilites, where he is demonstrating flying kicks and elbows.
All the best.
KEITH JAMES.

Yup, you have to wait and see keith james. the fights on ong bak 2 is different from his first movie as it a different story. you know how trailers are. they are pieces cut scenes patch up. Because he does stunts like jackie people in the industry says he' s the next jackie. jackie's old now, he don't do these martial stunts no more.
i personally think this is he best film not just base on action scenes but overall flow and how story told of movie.
He was actually asked by jackie chan to do drunken master 3. unfortunately their time schedule don't work. maybe he will make it after he finish ong bak 3 filming.
Tony is quite an athlete “the Protector” really showcased his ability. I’m disappointed that Tony and other “athletic action stars” are limited to such low level scripts and eventually end up dong wire and computer assisted stunts. So far I believe all of Toney’s are not assisted in any way.
Examples of this (in my opinion) are Jet Lee and Jason Statham. Both (in my opinion) are very good actors but to seem to be stuck with foolish scripts, way beneath their potential, and their stunts have gone from being very athletic to wire and computer assisted.
Most of the world discovered Jackie Chan much too late, way after his prime. Anyone remember Jackie’s friend Samo Hung and the series Martial Law? That, in my opinion, had great potential and Samo did some great stunts. If you review most of Jackie’s movies you will see that Samo has at least a cameo part and check out the credits he’s always in the back ground. That show turned into the Arsino Hall show and lost all of its appeal to me.
I do hope to see more of Tony and Jason I just hope they get better scripts. In the Proctor a gang of bad guys descend on Tony – their choice of weapons – florescent light bulbs. In Jason’s new movie he has to charge his artificial heart, in one scene with a 12 volt car battery, then static electricity and then by grabbing hold of million volt transformer?

tony jaa is all no wire work so far for his movies. same with jackie chan if possible. it's really the american market that don't let them put their creative input. if you have seen jackie in his old movies in hong kong you know that he is great. he's trying to gear toward acting and meaningful movie more instead of being labeled an action star.
Sammo do great movies, just not american ones as he didn't really break into it. sammo is fat due to some sort of injury or illness when he was little. he use to be skinny. he still got endurance and some kick butt martial arts skills.
then there is donnie yen who just did yip man movie story about bruce lee's teacher. good movie , go check it out.
tony jaa just started his career through route of action flicks. since those are in his homeland movie i don't think those are mediocre scripts for tony jaa. he did direct and wrote ong bak 2 himself most of it if not all.
jason isn't even in the same league as jet li , jackie or tony in regards to their stunts in my opinion. jason 2 movies crank 1 and crank 2 isn't much in terms of action. it's mainly adrenaline rush of him running everywhere. of course to bring out jason's best he would need an opponent. jet li isn't 'much of an opponent because of script. one big factor of wire work is because no insurance company will accept jackie or jet li. i assume the same goes for tony jaa because of the high risk in their stunts.
look at jet li and jackie in their movie together. you see them bring each other's potential out in forbidden kingdom movie even if it was a short fight scene.
