Got this beauty devlivered today, nice, measured the blade 14 inches, it is sold as a large machete but looks like a Kopis. Here is a pic http://www.defenseknife.com/schlm.html
I like large knives as a just in case and collect them. Here is a 14 inch bladed Bowie for only $35,000 http://www.ima-usa.com/product_info.php/products_id/2081 of course this is an antique.

I love the old knives!
MikeNY,
I like knives also although I hope never to have to use one in self defense. I have used one as a rescue tool on the job more than once. That said most of the knives that I have are Cold Steel Knives. Some say the price is just too high but I feel they are worth the money. If you visit their site they often have sales, seconds, and close outs. The close outs often happen when they are making a change to a current knife. I bought 6 voyagers during one of those sales and gave 4 as presents.
If you’ve never seen the “Proof” DVD that they offer I recommend that you call and request a copy.

Gary Cold Steel is a great product! On sale is the way to get them, I just ordered a Cold Steel Machete with the Kopis blade. When Jesus talked about selling your cloak and buying a sword it was symbolic and the sword he mentioned by name was the Makhaira, the fighting weapon of the Hoplites and also carried as a tool and survival item. Travelers carried it for protection, to chop wood, and to survice and it did have symbolic meaning. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makhaira and here it an article on the symbolic meaning http://www.sharpblades.net/index.php?page=post&id=62
Mike,
Interesting links - Thanks.

I once read that the Spartans carried a sword with a 12 to 13 inch blade (30cm); that must have been a Makhaira type sword with such a short blade. it was supposed to be especially deadly at close range Hoplite warfare and was adopted by many Greek armies.
