Ever notice how regular exercise helps you to think better?

My wife knows an acquaintance who is troubled by regular, mild bouts of depression. She is also overweight, and is often tired and bored, listless and inactive, and sometimes has a short fuse. She often has the blahs, a general feeling of pessimism. And of course, she never exercises. Need I say more?

I recalled a few brief encounters with this mental outlook a long time ago, long before my exercise days, but can honestly say I have not experienced this state of mind in many years.

Getting your heart going, getting winded, working up a light sweat, and of course, looking better and better in the mirror (a natural advantage of regular exercise) makes me a peppy and energetic person, never one to get bored or depressed. It also tends to make my attention span better and lift my powers of concentration. Anyone else notice this?

greg,
Gotta say it so helps me stay focused thru the day. My wife started up DVRs and other BWE this week, her energy has sky rocketed and her mood is better. This on just 20-30 m 3-4 days a week.
Exercise is my drug of choice so to speak. HAHA!!

I'd guess silent majority here would agree. Even brief exertions seem to re-direct foggy thinkin' . Me thinks caffeine & placebos can also increase one's mental bandwidth

I think all forms of exercise have this effect. DVR/VRT seems to have a particularly potent effect on my mental state though. In fact, it is the energizing feeling I get that led to me switching to an all DVR/VRT workout in the morning. After about 20 minutes I feel exhilarated and ready to face the day.

Mike, a late response to this thread in regards to sleep; the reason? I did VRT before bed last night (first time) and slept like a rock! My wife complains I snore, but last night, said I didn't wake her! :act-up: Lucky me! My morning is refreshing, I had a good night's sleep with lots of dreams (my personal way of determining a deep night's sleep). Thanks for the tip! Glad you cued us up on this one!

Greg I stumbled on that by accident. Had a busy, full day with not enough minutes in it. So I thought I need to workout and it was nearly bedtime, slept like a rock and fell asleep fast. Since then I've experimented, done VRT, M7, Dynaflex/Isometric Powerflexing and the Commander Set before bedtime and even started doing whatever combination of muscle tension exercises I'm using before bedtime on a regular basis. These muscle tension exercises work better than a cup of hot cocoa. Normaly I never fell to sleep fast & now do. Greg thank you for the kind word, sleep well my friend.

When the body aches the mind is distracted. One "cure" for body aches is to exercise all joints(neck to ankle) with full ROM moves using varying degrees of VRT tension
