When we talk about training, what exactly are we talking about?
Training for what,for who?
Will this training inhibit or enhance my life?
Do I want to be elite,or do I simply want to be in better shape as I go through this wonderful journey called life?

Goals and goal setting are huge.I have seen many novice Physical Culturists give up very soon, because they did not have a goal to strive for.

Some of us here were former athletes, elite athletes, some never were.It really doesn't matter. What matters is what you want to do,and how you want to do it.In signing up for the forum here, you have realized this is a bodyweight site. The techniques, however are enhanced.Rather than just cals.done in multiple routines like you see on other sites that boast the same(bodyweight exercises),here we also have DSR'S,DVR'S,VRT,and Iso's.

In combining a good routine, first again realize what your goal is.Do you want to lose weight?Do you want to look good for a reunion?Do you want to be able to play with your grandchildren,or children, and do the things around the house that need to get down-easier?Do you want to train like the way you used to?

I recently went on such an adventure.I trained in a way that I used to train when I did full contact fighting-very intense!Of course to do something so intense at 49,there first had to be a certain amount of general fitness.A typical day started with Qigong and then tai chi, bagua,or hsing-i.Later iin the day I would do My Transformetrics workouts followed by heavy bag work, and then back to one of the sisters and finishing with qigong. On some days I would squeeze into a very packed day three-full workouts.

One of my workouts might have looked like this:

10-20 Atlas pushups
10 Bicep curls
20-30 hindu squats
40 yard sprint
This was done for 12 sets with little or no rest between.

I would then finnish with Iso's
and then a wall squat, before heavy bag work.

Heavy lifting days:

VRT in various routines!

What was my goal?To get back into fighting form.Did I have a match coming up?Sure did.I looked into the mirror one day and saw an opponant.I said,'I bet I can beat your $#@! In other words as a 49 year old male,my competition days are over-it was more of just kicking my own#$@.

There were some days-like 100 burpee days(done in a row-followed by other work)-wow,very hard.

Inevitably I did something stupid and then hurt my left shoulder-which I am healing now.

Did I reach my goal-sure did! Did I kick that guy in the mirrors #$@,yeah but I want a re-match!

Now in this long rambling post,I have outlined one of my recent goals-what is yours? What would you like to accomplish? Have you put it to paper?

More on that later.
Have a wonderful day!
peace,
jason

Hey Jason,

Wonderful post! That is what it comes down to, you and the guy (or gal) in the mirror. Fix your goal and plow full steam ahead. It might be something as simple as losing a few pounds, or something as major as competing in an athletic event.

Hi Greg,

Thank you my friend! If memory serves, you and I are about the same age, feels good doesn't it?

Just the other day we had 'Day of caring'.My Advisor group and another were assigned landscaping the entire school property. It is only for four hours and then we have other activities in the afternoon(amazing how much work groups of students can do in a short amount of time),

Like yourself,I like to lead by example. No breaks, peddle to the metal for four hours.Of course I encouraged students to take breaks and hydrate. They were amazed that someone,'two days older than water'could keep a brekneck speed at the same intensity for so long. You and I know it is just training well and hard.

My point is not to brag or this or that.My point is,that as you work with sustained intensity with Transformetrics, all the things you do everywhere go much easier. All it takes is determination, sweat and elbow grease.

Have a great day.

peace,
jason

Hi Jason,

I'm 48, so I don't think we are too far apart. Looking back, it took time to really get that "feel good" kind of energy again. I was pretty busted up and stressed out when I started. Along the way I gave up caffeinated soft drinks, started taking Apple Cider Vinegar daily, began restricting what I eat, and worked out the exercises that work best for me. We talk a lot about being able to do this or that athletic feat, and sometimes we forget that the reason we started this was to enhance our health, get our flexibility back, and improve our endurance for daily tasks. You see, after a stressful day at work, I now look forward to knocking out pushups and other exercises everyday. It is never a chore, nor a driven fixation. It is a pleasure I hope to enjoy for many years to come.

Minimizing stress' killer effects is another goal. Exercise & meditation always come to the rescue

Right on gruntbrain! So True!

Greg,

So funny,I had just sat down with a glass of Braggs apple cider vinegar drink(like mine with honey and a splash of lemon)to read this.

I agree no chore here, just the beauty of the journey.I was really banged up as well-been a long, long journey but I feel great at 49(last weekend)!

peace,
jason
