In a previous post GTG is described as a protocol of exercise throughout the day at predetermined intervals.

Question: Are there any alternatives if I have to work and cannot GTG throughout the day?

Be creative is probably the best remedy. Take GTG for push-ups - before you leave the house in the morning, you could knock out several sets broken up over the morning. Get up do a set of 10 (or whatever is appropriate for you); get your coffee together do another set; take a shower, do another set; get ready for work do another set.

I also have to feed the dogs and help my wife with the kids, so I'm typically able to knock out 10 sets before I leave. I do the same in the evening (get home - do a set; help get dinner together - do a set; eat - relax; while watching TV, etc. you can knock out a set every ad or every other ad, etc.)

Hey Palomayombe,

NO! Great as G-T-G is , it certainly is not the only way to incredible gains. Charles Atlas advocated morning and evening training. Never to failure, but multiple sets. Bottom line: Experiment. As Alexander Zass proved, "The WILL is the Way" . Not , "Where there is a will, there is a way."

Timed sub-failure sets is another alternative. If you want to increase your chinup numbers, and are capable of 10 before having to pray your way through, then set a timer for 20 - 30 minutes and do as many sets of 5 as you can.

HOWEVER, if you are prone to shoulder and elbow pain, be very careful about increasing intendity too fast! If you suddenly do twice as many reps as your body is used too, there's a good chance your body won't like you very much and will let you know it at the weakest links in the chain - the joints.
