When I was learning karate in the 1970's, I ws told the answer to that question is as follows; Tang Soo Do is a Korean Karate style that is 50% hands and 50% feet. Tae Kwon Do is a Korean style that is 25% hands and 75% feet. Tae Kwon Do used to be the largest Karate organization in the world.

As far as I know, originally, Tae kwon do was not a martial art. It was just a set of rules that enabled korean fighters from various MA to fight together.
It then evolved so that it is now a wide-spread martial art.
This is what my MA teacher told me (he is a great martial archeologist).

Thank you Hollyweed 88 and Focus for answering my question. I find martial arts confusing at times. It makes more sense to me now. It was great to see your posting Hollyweed 88. I wish you well and am glad you are still participating. I hope I have not caused you any distress. I respect you and it means a lot to me that you took your time to respond to my question. I know Larry always enjoyed hearing from you. It will mean a lot to him as well that you stopped by. Don't be a stranger. This is your home as well.

I'd thought both were variations of Kwon Bop the anicent Korean martial art.
