My other point, after telling you how I COUNT my reps, is how I PERFORM my reps!
This is another facet of training that seems really simple, until you actually think about it!
I usually alternated between 10 reps of "DVR-style" intensive, slowlly-making-myself-feel-it and work it hard reps, and then follow with a set of 10 fast and kind-of-cheating like everyone does reps.
At least in pushups, for me this is the best of both worlds:
I get high rep counts (motivational psychologically; also, it probably helps with the flow of oxygenated blood to the muscles and lungs;
and, I get to focus during the DVR reps on pure muscle function!
Anyway, again, just my two cent's worth!
