Just wanted to say hi to everyone and say I tried doing my standard cals tabata style today, because I'm pressed for time.
Just the standard 4 mins/8 rounds/20secs on/10 secs off and I'm really puffing.
Now a couple rounds of M7 and I have a pretty decent 15 minute workout. I think everybody out there has 15 minutes to spare here and there!
Anyway cheers to all and have a blessed 4th of July.

Your statement was very vague. We want to know what you did during the 4 minutes. How fast, how many, what exercises, why you chose those particular exercises. How many reps and sets of the M7 did you do? I want to know. I liked your post, but it left me wanting more info about something that I was enjoying reading.
Thanks.

I would be very surprised if he knew the numbers, unless he wrote them down as he went. The tabata protocol is just going al out for 20 seconds at a time in a given exercise. I used to do it a couple times a week with pushups and tiger squats.

He may not able to remember how many reps and sets during Tabata, but answers to my other questions can be a help to members of the forum. What exercises, how fast, and why he chose those as opposed to others.
The M7 are done slow enough to tell all the answers to all my questions.

Hi Hollyweed.
Sorry on the vagueness front, but I really was pressed for time this afternoon. (I had to play a ballet class...ever seen a room of angry ballerinas?)
Anyway here's a link explaining the basic tabata protocol.
http://www.squidoo.com/tabatatraining
Today I used hindu squats, then hindu p/u's, then mountain climbers, then squat thrusts, then repeated the sequence, for a total of 8 intense 20 sec periods.
I'm experimenting with this idea now. I think I will try tomorrow with a different sequence of power cals.
I rather miss doing my normal slow 50-60 hindu p/u's so maybe I'll try to add that in tomorrow, too, depending on how I feel.
I'm doing this because I'm tired of this spare tire, so I'm looking for ways to up the intensity while keeping the M7 and Isos going as well, without expending too much time in the process, because between the assorted work demands plus watching a two year old (plus I'm still trying to stretch out my lumbar spine, which hasn't fully recovered from the accident yet)
Anyway Hollyweed I hope this clears up my meaning a little better.
Take Care
Jon

the tabata protocol stipulates going all out for those 20 seconds though, so doing the m7 slowly tabata style would be a very odd variation. now you've piqued my interests more lol

A heartrate monitor is useful to verify the effectiveness of your implementation of Tabatas; think of the monitor as a whip unless you have heart problems in which case the monitor becomes a "carrot"

I wasn't trying to imply doing the M7 tabata style, although I'm sure anything is possible :)
I was talking about doing cals, then moving on to the DVR ISO stuff. I like to do DVR's very slowly at a higher intensity.

I have started using tabata in my morning routine since pulling my achiles tendon, and having just recovered from Busted-up Bullworker Syndrome. I now break up my longer routines into shorter multiple sessions.
I blow only about 25 minutes before breakfast now like so:
15 Atlas Pushups
5 minutes squats
15 Atlas Pushups
5 minutes squats
15 Atlas Pushups
5 minutes squats
15 Atlas Pushups
4 minute tabata on the bike
15 Atlas Pushups
The nice thing about the exercise bike is that you CAN guage how well you did on the tabata and watch your progress. I am doing 1.24 miles in the eight 20 second bursts. I started out doing .84 of a mile a month ago.
