John,

Had a question for you. I really enjoyed the previous post concerning what to do if you can't GTG:

My question is can someone use this process for an exercise like Handstand Pushups where the max number is extremely low. Right now my max on handstand pushups is 6-7. Taking 60 percent, I'm looking at 3-4 reps for the peak of the first pyramid. Would you recommend doing 1+2+3+4+3+2+1 reps in a pyramid or something similar?

Thanks for any advice.

GTG with handstand push-ups is pretty advanced in my opinion. Many don't have the leverage to even kick up into one. I used to GTG when I first started them which helped me get up to 20+ HSPU's in one set. Its great to see someone try it. My advise would be be start holding positions for time and once you can actually get one in without much trouble then work up to small number then GTG that way. HSPU's are one of the toughest bodyweight exercises around. It won't matter if you can a thousand push-ups in other variations your reps will be cut short almost as much as the power T's when you begin them.

Thanks Benny. Currently I can do 6-7 HSPU against the wall. That's where my max has been stuck at for a while. These aren't the full range reps with chairs or parallettes, but with my head touching the ground. I was thinking about using the Pyramid system about 2-3 times a week with these. I can't picture doing these more than 3 times a week however. Would like to up my pullups at the same time using the pyramid system.
