Ok, first the news.

My wife and I are expecting our second child. The due date is March 7, which is one month after our daughter's birthday :)

This leads to the question part of my post.

My wife is concerned about weight gain this time around, largely because she doesn't want to weigh as much as she did with our daughter. Obviously, now that she's pregnant she has to be a bit more cautious than if she weren't.

The question I have is this:

From a purely muscular activity stand point, which burns more calories over a given time period, static contractions/holds or dynamic movements???

The current plan is to have her do whichever is best, along with deep breathing, in order for her to keep within a SAFE and comfortable weight range.

We’ve already been trying to adapt to a more healthy diet. Now, we/I am trying to determine the best exercise for her given her current condition.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!

Second, if I were to lay my money on the simplest, safest and most effective way to burn fat, I'd have to pick walking. It's hard to get hurt walking, it can be as intense as you want it to be, it's good to get outside and it burns fat directly. The only downside to it is it takes a lot of time.

While walking simultaneously perform upperbody DSRs; the added hand clasps will elevate the heartrate & hence burn more calories . Moreover, calorie burning muss-kill building happens(albeit minimal)

I'm sorry you don't get yet another 2009 tax deduction

Well, first let me say I think you came to the right place for questions. Men don't gain nearly as much weight as women do during pregnancy, so we're better qualified, in my opinion.

I second what Joe says. You can't go wrong with walking and I think the overall message is to stay active. The human body is tough, don't worry too much about it but don't be foolish. Your wife can continue to pick berries in the field for quite a while, at least until first frost.

And above all, congratulations. Kids are the best thing in the world. Have at least a dozen. Already have a daughter, huh? Cool. As a father of two (would have loved ten more, at least) daughters, I can tell you they are much better than that other kind.

Donna may jump in and have something to say. Ignore her.

You're a lucky man.

I agree with Tom. Men are pretty awesome and way better than women, especially when it comes to pregnancy.

P.S. Please don't tell my wife I said that. PLEASE!!!!!
