I agree with Joe but I think a second best would be pushing down on a table. That I think is a great stand ab isometric.

Hi Hollyweed,
I've found the standing abdominal roll from the Tiger Moves to be fantastic. If this were the only ab exercise I could do, this would be it. It takes time, but in time the results are fantastic, which is a smaller waist. I do it every workout.
All of the above. It helps the ab, back, and digestion.

With grip assistance hang from a highbar to perform a variety of ab & oblique isotonics & isometrics. Even perform vacuums while hanging

As John describes it in PYTP, the superman wheel push-up is "THE SILVER BULLET".
In case that doesn't qualify because you end up parallel to the floor, the number two would have to be the wall walk.
As for ISO's, the Ab Contraction #1 is just awesome and can be done anywhere, anytime.

For me, the best standing ab exercise is the Double Drive from Yoga For Men Only.
Adam
Many of us have no idea what that might look like. Perhaps you could explain it.
Thanks.

someone had mentioned the benefits of the vacum, another is it helps sexual vitality according to the Yogis.i also note that when i do reverse breathing later with a qigong like the microcosmic circuit or spring forest it really helps with the physical and conscious movement of the qi.

Jason, can you please describe how to do "reverse breathing" and what the benefits are.
Thanks,

Try a "reverse Vacuum"; distend your gut ( make a beer belly) against the resistance of a belt or even your hands

Hi Hank and Hollyeed,
Reverse breathing is a technique to be used as a garnish,to spice things up occasionally or for specific exercises(I only say this as most of the time-in the way I was trained through Qigong and the Internal Martial Arts-it is important to use Dantien breathing;when you breathe in the lower abdomen protrudes, when you breathe out the belly falls towards the spine).
In reverse breathing you consciously bring the abdomen in on the inhale and on the exhale the belly goes outward. In the way I teach it is important to have five qualities of breath for both techniques;long, slow, deep, smooth, and even-unless you are doing the breath of fire technique from Yoga.
Reverse breathing is used for specific techniques, like in Spring Forest Qigong and The Microcosmic circuit. If you touch your tongue on the upper palate(just behind the teeth)and lightly rise(inwardly upwards)the huiyin-soft tissue between the anus and private parts, you are allowing the energy to circulate well in the conception(front channel of body)and the governing back channel. This is a major energy circuit, one that connects to all the meridians. It is said in Chinese Medicine that if you can keep this channel open and clear you will have no illness.
Reverse breathing allows for the bringing up the energy so it can make the loop from the dantien, huiyin, mingmen(across from the belly button on the back)and up over the head before it descends down the conception channel in the front again. In a sense it is like a subtle circular wave that helps to generate energy and vitality.Again don't use reverse breathing throughout the day,use like a garnish.
It can be simple or quite complex. For those interested in a simple, powerful approach to this methodology check out Spring Forest Qigong.Very good Qigong,or if you would like you can just continue to enjoy the vacuum. There are great benefits to the vacuum.
Kind of long winded here, for that I apologize.
peace,
jason

Rig Bear,
the only way you could have explained it was with a long post. Thank you for such a detailed explaination. It sounds like you know what you are talking about. It also sounds like some good ideas that may take time and a great effort to learn.
