In a recent discussion of bodybuilding vs. training for functional fitness, it was revealed through film clips, that many of the greatest bodybuilders of all time, steroids or not, were found to be lacking in several of the attributes necessary to achieve functional fitness. Yet consider total functional fitness requirements as per the definitive text PYTP.

1. Strength
2. Flexibility
3. Endurance
4. Speed
5. Balance
6. Coordination
7. Aesthetics

While the bodybuilders clearly had strength and aestthetic attributes, the other aspects were questionalble. Contrast that with clips of Atlas or John and you see all seven attributes in effect. It is rare that bodybuilders, especially the steroid bloated ones of today, would be able to perform the feats of balance and strength, or display the gracefull power of Atlas or John. Powerlifters are even worse off. Transformetrics has provided a great platform to address all of thease attributes. I substitute running and rope jumping to address coordination and speed, but it can be done with high repetitions of squats and cals as well.

In Pumping Iron, Franco certainly displayed a high degree of functional physicality
