It has been a few years since i have performed 1000 pushups in a day, so I gave it a go this weekend. Saturday morning i had done 300 then went for a run in the afternoon, after my run I decied to do more pushups, funny thing is I wasn't planning on doing 1000 I was only going to do 200 more so that I got to 500 for the day, I just got in that zone and cranked out 800 pushups to bring me to 1100 for the day, not only did I feel an incredible pump but I also felt the additional cardio that doing pushups in these numbers brings.
I got up Sunday morning with the intention of only doing 300 to 500 reps, well I got in another 1000. I think I am going to continue on a super high rep blitz for a while, some say high reps are great some say not so great, all that matters to me is how I feel when I am done and I feel increedible after completing a super high rep pushup workout.
As of today i have 700 in, I will be doing additonal pushups throughout the day and probably get another 100 to 200 done in my muay thai class tonight.

On a side note, my chinup bar is pretty much done, so I had to start doing door pullups agian, i forgot how tough these could be, once again I am amazed at the versatility body weight exercises provide.

I am now starting to wonder if this high rep blitz has anytthing to do with me turning 40 this week and trying to prove something to myself....lol

Wow, 1000 reps a day is nothing short of amazing!! I think it all depends on your body and how it responds to stress, some people can do high rep volume (500-1000 reps) everyday while others might have to take a day or two off. We all have to experiment and see what works best for each of us.

Impressive stuff Rob,

How many reps / set do you do? Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words guys. As far as sets and reps go I was using 2 different types of pushups close grip and wide grip (pushups were performed on pushup handles), I would do 30 close grip and 30 wide grip alternating one after the other. I kept the rest time short, not sure exactly how long rest periods were as I was not counting I would just drop and do pushups when i felt ready

me again im not rob but sure he will chime in

it helps with deleivering oxygen rich blood to the muscles
muscular endurance. cardiovascular endurance
vo2 increase
strength endurance for continued physical exertion
mental disclipline and concentrating
muscle building and release of HGH
calorie burning
incenerating fat
inceased blood flow through out the whole body
get a productive workout without excess weight and strain and protect joints and ligaments
muscle structure expansion or a great pump
also to fatigue the muscles to eventually call all the muscle fibers into play
and to create that ultimate last muscle straining rep for strength and growth
also to some its a form of meditation and zen

there are also more scientific reasons like increasing capallary density.
I hope i didnt step on Rob W's toes, as im sure he has some great insight from doing consecutive 1000 reps routines I anxiously await also to hear his input.

I think Superbeasat said it all, No worries about stepping on my toes at all, everyone's feedback is more than welcomed.
I didn't really think of it until super beast mentioned it, but the whole meditation aspect is so true, I find I get into a real zone and focus on breathing and the pushups.
I would also strongly agree with the mental toughness, it some time takes a little extra to get those last few reps in.
I thought I would find my shoulders really sore and stiff but with a little stretching there is no stiffness or soreness. I also do muay thai kickboxing 3 times a week so that may help loosen the shoulders up too.
