Vladimir Putin has provided all of Russia's leaders with a copy of his judo DVD - his own executive training program . As a former Intelligence Agent and head of the KGB he is ofcourse familiar with personality profiling or "mind mapping" as it is called in the military. With this DVD he has provided the world with an insight into his own personality and with Russia's recent military actions some foreshadowing into the style that he plans to employ, This man is not going to respect weakness.

Gordon there is also a book on Judo that Putin wrote. I'd think he will reveal he is a Judo expert and and long term Judo player, and supposedly quite good. Couple his Judo training with his being the former head of the KGB and you have a ruthless, well educated man that knows how to attack your weak sports and knows timing

I believe this is all part of Putin's strategy to put the states of the former Soviet Union back together. He has time as his re-escalation of the arms race causes the western industrialized countries to strain their already strained budgets. He already has control of the Europeans as he has control of their energy supply. He is one smart, tough, SOB. Donald Trump says that New York Real Estate Developers are the smartest and most ruthless men in the world- boy did he get a wrong number.

I don't want to start any discussions about politics or a future Cold War, but I have it on very good authority that Putin is the real deal when it comes to Judo. Much of his Judo (and Sambo) training happened way before he ever got into a position of power, so its a case of hard work and discipline, not "Let's give the Premier an honourary Black Belt"!

Gordon.....I learned judo under a former All Japan Judo Champion.
He was totally "old school" in his approach. One thing he pressed
upon me was the importance of the mind in judo. He had me visualizing
my throws....for reps. I would lay in bed at night and do a complete
workout all in my mind. The mind - muscle connection was very important
to him. I remember two sayings he repeated : "it is mind OVER muscle."
and "the mind LEADS the body". He encouraged the use of weights, but
only once a week and only moves like power cleans and snatches. The
rest of the workouts he gave me were all body weight pushups and body-
weight squats. At the time I was doing Dynamic Tension and just sorta
dropped the weight lifting stuff. I had many talks with my sensei about the
mind in judo.....but I found out later that he did not have these conversations
with everyone...I guess he just talked to the ones he thought would listen.
I listened.
