Curious if anyone here has purchased Mike O'Donnell's Break Free Life e-book on Intermittent Fasting? It seems to be an interesting concept, but I would value a review from a forum member here before I invest. Thanks in advance!
I've been doing intermittent fasting for quite a while successfully. After it worked for so long I quit reading up on it. I haven't heard of the book but I'm curious. There is a lot of good free stuff out there, though.

Are you doing it as a weightloss plan or some other health benefit?
If I pursue this it would be to change eating habits. Weight loss would likely result. I'd like to escape diets for good.

Intermittent fasting works well for the obese, not so well for the relatively lean, IMHO.
Here's why:
There is a limit to how many calories a day bodyfat can provide. The theoretical maximum(based on starvation studies) is 31 calories/lb of bodyfat/day. So a person with 100 lbs of bodyfat can cut calories up to 3100/day without cannibalizing muscle to make up the difference.
A relatively lean man with say 20 lbs. of bodyfat can only stand to cut calories by 620/day without losing muscle.
These numbers are, again, theoretical and people who exercise can probably exceed them somewhat.
If you've very heavy, fasting every other day shouldn't be an issue. If you're not, you can probably get away with something like the Warrior Diet or Fast-5, where you eat once/day during a 5-6 hour window.
This goes to show that it's all about definitions if you want thoughtful exchange. I understand intermittent fasting to mean Warrior Diet, Fast5, or other daily eating window. Some make small windows, some large. That is what is so good about it, I think.
I can see why it would be logical to call every other day, or once a week fast intermittent fasting, but I don't. I just call that fasting.
So, what does that Break Free mean by IF?

Tom, I think you and I are at the same point of inquiry! I do not know what the Break Free Life is all about, which is exactly why I posted my question here. I hope to hear from a forum member that has the book.

He recommends eating only within a 3-8 hour window every day as opposed to Eat Stop Eat which recommends picking 1-2 days a week to just not eat.
Thanks, Viki. I was considering getting Eatstopeat, but at this point am not interested in that kind of intermittent fasting, or what I've always just called fasting. You saved me getting the book. This is not a criticism of it, just a preference.
Once in a long while I will not eat for a day. It usually is after a particularly gluttonous, painful, long weekend (I incorporate some NoS ideas). Other than that, I'm not interested at this point in scheduling full days of fasting.
It's a different sort of animal, not my best horse, so I'm not going to ride it.
