Hi,everyone, My daughter had a friend over the other night and they saw me doing my isometric workout. My daughters friend said that she goes to a gym and does isometrics with resistance bands. Can isos be done with resistance bands with any results?thanks,Lou,(Kong2).

When I was doing them that way for awhile with resistance bands, the isometrics sure was not easy. I found one could hit all the angles with short to long holds in each position during each workout. My guess is they would show results after a while.

I now do isometrics as plan CIC's but I also add a pull on a thick round piece of wood. That pull is great for the back and whole upper body.

Anyway that was my two cents.

Bands can provide useful feedback to your isometric efforts; advocates of their use have coined the term "live" isometrics

If she's using bands, they're not isometrics.

KONG2;

It sounds like an isometric hold, or contraction, after using the bands for resistance. This may work as some feel it is the best of both worlds - resistance using bands instead of weights and then an isometric hold. In John's book he has a photo of this taken to another level. Alexander Zass has a chain with handles atttached to the end.
In the end it is what works for you.
One of the good things about this forum is finding out different ways to reach our individual goals.

For me, ISO's and Power Cals with DSR's are what works.

IPR's reference to the ancient archers pulling on the Bronze Bow can be likened to the use of bands to perform isometrics; at some point the pull is stopped by the bands resulting a "deadlock"(isometric) which can be held for time.
