My old workout thread had something like 10 or 11 pages to it, and I figured now would be as good a time as any to start a new one. There had been some formatting things I wanted to clean up, and who doesn't like a fresh start. In fact, I've taken some formatting things from my previous posts, and tried to incorporate them here.

What follows is the new format i'll be taking w/ my workout logs. I'm confident that this will keep me moving in the direction I want. Cleaned up posts, new flexed pictures and of course some of my ramblings.

Ultimate Goals:
To be able to complete a full GUTS routine, as outlined in GUTS: The Ultimate 24/7 Body Sculpting Training System, page 11.
To bring my weight down to at least 145 lbs. by the end of March and maintain that weight.
To improve my climbing and complete a 5.12b this summer as well as move up to V5's in my bouldering.

Supporting Goals:
To maintain my current strength level, as shown by my current GUTS level.
To improve my overall cardio. abilities.

Current GUTS ability (taken from today's routine:
Military Pushups - 50.
Atlas 3 sit-ups - 58.
Hindu Squats - 225
Atlas 3 sit-ups - 50
Military Pushups - 25, followed by a short break then 11 more.
Milo - complete routine
Time to completion: 24min 00.0 seconds

Diet:

By diet I'm mostly referring to the method of which I'm using to lose weight. At this time it's calorie counting, though I'm hopeful to move away from that as I reach my goals.

My caloric budget is 1,532 calories per day, This type of caloric load should theoretically have me losing 1.5lbs a week. Which would mean I will be at my goal weight in 2 weeks. However, I love food, and don't always stick to the diet perfectly, so we'll see how that part goes.

The numbers are calculated through a free iPod calorie counting program that automatically adjusts my caloric intake based on my current height (5'5") and weight. I estimate the GUTS routine to burn 200 calories, and for rock climbing I take the standard "ascension" numbers in a climb and divide that in half for calories burned in that activity.

Current weight:
147.8lbs

Pictures taken after today's workout:
454 455 456

Thoughts on today's workout:

The workout today was great! I went a little overboard and felt kinda cruddy immediately afterward, however I felt normal if not better within about 5 to 10 min. I'm very excited to be getting this new workout log up and running, and feel like it will help to keep me motivated for my goals. It won't always be filled out to the extent of this first one, but I wanted to give a clear picture of what I'm after right now. I also thought it might be helpful for people looking to learn or work from my journal, while making their own.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at the new post/format/workout and know that I'll do my best to keep it updated and progress charted. The next set of pictures will come in March around the 8th for those wondering, and if anyone has questions please don't hesitate to ask.

All the best!

Here is my info for yesterday a little late.

Yesterday's weight:
147.8lbs

Yesterday's workout:
Climbing for 1hr 15min.

Yesterday's Thoughts:
Overall it was a good workout. Admittedly my legs were sore going into the climbing, and even sorer (is that a word lol) afterward. The stiffness was so bad I spent any time walking, looking rather stiff. My hope being that my body will repair itself by the morning of course.

Today's weight:
146.0lbs

Today's workout:
Cycling for 45 min.

Today's Thoughts:

Holy Guacamole! I'm very happy about the weight today. Haven't done GUTS yet, because my quads are still pretty sore. The bike ride loosened them up though, so I might give it a whirl later today. At the very least I've gotten some of a workout today. Plus the weight is still right on target. More posted as it comes!

Today's weight:
146.6lbs

Today's workout:
Climbing 1hour and 30 min.

Today's Thoughts:

Good workout today, legs were feeling better when I awoke. The first half hour of the climb felt really slow though, like my body couldn't get in gear. I can say that the last 30 min. were very effective, and I am feeling good presently. I'm also thinking that overall my body is making changes it needs and that I should be hitting my goal weight soon.

Today's weight:
146.0lbs
Today's workout:
GUTS ability (taken from today's routine:
Military Pushups - 50.
Atlas sit-ups - 62.
Hindu Squats - 210
Atlas sit-ups - 62
Military Pushups - 16, followed by a short break then 20 more.
Milo - complete routine
Time to completion: 24min 06.7 seconds
Today's Thoughts:
Goodness, was today rough. True, I improved my GUTS numbers overall. The pushups on the end pretty much drained me completely though. In so much as, I did the Milo routine, but not strongly. I also pushed them so hard that I have been a little light headed since completion, but that's going away. The pig difference in the military and atlas 3 push-ups is that the militar yi can rest from and push out some more. With the 3's it was much harder to do that.

I took it a bit easier on the squats today, as I'm hoping not to have my legs sore for o long this time. Amazing how strong they feel with only a few GUTS routines in them again, and yet how achey they can be while I'm building the endurance back up. I'm still looking to get to a solid military push-up at the front and end before moving back to the atlas 3's, but overall am very happy with my numbers.

Finally, the weight is right on target for where I would like. I believe I will hit one of my goals (target weight) very soon. I'm also really liking the changes in the mirror as I'm getting low enough for more dramatic differences to be visible. Pictures up 1 month from when I took the others though, unless I get a lot of responses that they wanna see sooner.

Climbing 1 hour and 30 min.
Today's Thoughts:
What a climb today! I was really happy with the workout. My body really pushed itself, as did I. Hit some new heights as far as my personal bests, and kept the strength up throughout the whole workout. Figured out some new routes, and solved a few that had been giving me issue. Looking forward to more progress, and I'm feeling even more confident that my goals will be accomplishable.

Today's workout:
Climbing 1 hour and 45 min.
Today's Thoughts:
So, the weight is up today, what gives? Well first of all I took valentines day off, figured I would spend the day with my lady. Secondly I ate WAY too much at dinner. Worth it? You bet, but not something that can be maintained regularly while still losing weight. I expect things to keep settling out and that my weight will keep working its way down.

Today's climb was nice, not as intense as Saturday's, but I felt like I was getting work done and being strong.

Today's Thoughts:

Good climb today, feel like I'm making consistent progress. However, I'm also slacking when it comes to GUTS, so I'll need to make sure I'm more diligent to keep pushing that front and working my body on off days as well.

Today's Thoughts:

Good workout today. I am a bit bummed I'm not pushing the numbers harder, but truth be told I think it's because I'm not performing the routine... routinely enough. I am deliberating how I"m going to get more of it in while rock climbing. Probably a sub maximal routine. That way I keep my legs strong. I'll have to try out a GUTS light tomorrow after, or maybe before climbing. More as it comes!

Military Pushups - 20
Time to completion: 8min 46.5 seconds
Today's Thoughts:

Well well well, so today was the first day that i've tried doing some GUTS and some climbing. Note that the climbing was first.

Overall, I felt like I had a good climb today. Tried a bunch of new routes that I was able to do, and found some that I was not, but will make for good challenges. The day started me out feeling rather sore and stiff from the GUTS plus the 2 walks I had yesterday. One might wonder what gives with the weight. Easy enough to explain.

Anne and I had dinner late last night out with friends, came home and fell asleep till morning. Body didn't really have time to digest it before sleep, and probably ate a bit much for that time of night anyway! I don't expect the weight to continue to be high tomorrow unless I do something odd for dinner this eve.

The mini GUTS routine went very well, I felt good throughout, and afterward. I didn't do the milo with it, though maybe I should have. I was simply trying to do the basics at 1/3 the normal level or slightly above and I achieved that. It will be interesting to see how I feel tomorrow and what my body wants to give for the full routine. Time will tell!

Nothing

Thoughts:
I had no workout today. Early on in my day I over stretched or something, and it has caused a pain along the left side of my back. It's nothing unbearable, but I fear that I might make it worse if I do GUTS right now. I also wanted to mention that i climbed for an hour yesterday, and did feel unusually sore today. Perhaps my body is just really getting pushed up to a new level and having a hard time adjusting.

I will see how I feel tomorrow, but I'm hoping to get in a good climb and a mini-Guts routine. On the up side, my weight is down, and I'm finally in the 145's. With a bit of luck, and mostly work, I'll get that down even further as I continue to trim the fat off.

Thoughts:

GREAT and I mean GREAT climb today. I felt very strong and my muscles did exactly what I asked of them. I was able to push myself and complete a couple routes that had been eluding me previously, and I really pushed myself to get my body a good pump.

Only downside is the weight, or perhaps I should say upside. I intend to post more on the goings on in the main forum though.

Time to completion: 15min 16.3 seconds
Today's Thoughts:

So I got a GUTS workout in today, and I'm glad I did. The weight inching up like that is a good reminder, but still something is off. I intend to post more about it on the main forums, so check there in the enxt day or 2 for a rundown.

As a note, I intentionally cut the squats down to 100. I have noticed that the higher my numbers get ,the further away I am from getting 100 in 4 min. which is the pace needed to get 300 in 12. Plus I hadn't done GUTS in a while, so Ifigured it would help working on that timing plus give my legs a chance to get caught up again with GUTS.

Long climbing session today! Very appy to report that I had a nice long climbing session today where I felt pretty good throughout, and got a god workout. So good in fact my lady and I treated ourselves to a hamburger and shake. Figured that we should get a walk in on the beautiful day, so we also hit up the lake area for a while to boot!

Overall feeling good, and looking at my weight with glee.

Today's Thoughts:

I finally went UNDER the goal! hoorah hoorah. Now it's just keeping it there.

So its been a while since I've posted, and I'm putting in low numbers. Basically I had to reboot GUTS. I wasn't getting the same great feeling from it, due to inconsitancy. I reasoned that if I lowered the numbers back to beginner level and worked my way back up the ladder, I would be able to get to similar numbers, and stand a much better chance of doing GUTS daily.

For the month I am not rock climbing, as I have other expenses that I would like to take care of. This is nice in that it will give my hands a bit of time off the rock to heal, but it also means I will lose a lot of my climbing strength. That is, unless I use pushups to help keep it up, and GUTS is a perfect avenue for that.

All that being said, I also wanted to state that I actually restarted GUTS on Sunday, with these numbers:

Sunday's workout:
GUTS:
Military Pushups - 20
Atlas sit-ups - 30
Hindu Squats - 60
Atlas sit-ups - 30
Military Pushups - 20

Anyway, that's all for now, but I mst admit I'm very happy about the weight!

Atlas sit-ups - 36
Hindu Squats - 70

Today's Thoughts:

So, the weight was up a little bit up today. Not to be put down by it though I took a look in the mirror and was somewhat proud of what I saw. Not something that I say regularly or often. I also feel like this start over of GUTS has been really helpful too. Lately I'd been putting off the GUTS routine and I think part of that was related to the fact that I was just letting the numbers get to me.

Now that my weight is basically where I want it, it's time to get the workouts going the way I want again, and even if that's counter to what JP has said, I know that I'm moving in the right direction for me. A good sign in the "be your own trainer" mantra for sure.

Today's Thoughts:
Well, the weight is up, but I'm not thinking too much on it. Yes I want the weight down, but if it's going to give me trouble, so be it. I know that if I keep up the workouts it will go down again.

I'm also not calorie counting currently. I'm just tryign to watch a bit of what I eat. I know that for tomorrow my weight will be up, as I'm having some REALLY bad but amazing food tonight (roasted beef in a puff pastry, and veggies) Overall the workout felt good , icoudl tell I was pushing it on the speed and for today that was great.

I'm also happy that overall my body is keeping up with the workout nicely. It's true I started very low again, but I did that so I could try getting this done daily, and ramp up as I am able w/o burning myself out. More to come!

Time to completion: 8min 46.8 seconds
Today's Thoughts:

Always love seeing the weight going in the right direction!

Today, I has a longer workout, but not much larger numbers. The reason was that my knee started feeling funny about 40 squats in so I did the other 40 slowly and carefully. The knee feels fine otherwise, and I didn't even know it was a bother point. It could be that I have been walking big hills the past 2 days for about 30 min. each, and my body is getting adjusted. I'll see how it feels tomorrow, as I definitely don't want to hurt myself with the squats.

Overall I'm feeling good, feeling like things are coming together. I saw a friend last night that i hadn't seen in a month or so and she was impressed by my physique and changes so that's great motivation. After all, who doesn't like seeing someone after a while and finding they notice your hard work :)

Took a day off to make sure my knee was feeling okay. It wasn't hurting at al while walking on it, but I figured better safe then sorry. My weight is down again, and I'm wanting to keep it that way, so a GUTS work I go!

The numbers show that I was able to shave off the better part of a minute. I'm not sure if I sacrificed a lot of form for it, but I don't feel like I did. Overall I'm feeling really good, and strong. Pleased that I was able to workout today, despite being very tired when I got home from work. For those that hadn't noticed, I'm working again, but since I want to get home to my fiance, I do the workout once I'm home.

Wow, crazy! I intentionally repeated the same numbers, but instead of doing the workout before dinner, I did it afterward (little break before of course.) I had a LOT more energy for the pushups, and felt good during the squats. In fact, the squats were finished pretty darn quick by my calculations. The slow part was the atlas situp, which was just a lot harder than normal.

Funny how changing things like when we eat can have such an impact. Not complaining, just saying!

Overall, feeling good, and looking forward to more as I rebuild my numbers.

Feeling good from the workout this AM, and basically going to keep working to get my numbers up. I'm feeling less pressed in the legs which means it will be time to put the numbers up again. First on the Agenda... weight!

So my fiance's sister is in town for the week. Our scale happens to be out in an open non carpeted area that is not the restroom. What does this mean you might ask, well no getting naked in the kitchen to weigh myself! All in all though I don't think it's so bad. I'll just have a week of guess what my weights at, and see how close I am by the end!

Overall, I'm pretty excited about it, I mean no weight watching. Now, I may find that I'm unhappy with the end of the week results but that's okay. The only down side is that it also means I'm on the couch all week (pull out bed) but hopefully that won't mess with my rest too much.

The workout itself was pretty decent. I felt a good burn throughout, and even think my body is adapting pretty well. The time is slipping so to speak, but I'm also adding numbers. I figure if I keep within the goals of pushups matched to the second, situps no longer than 3 min. worth, and 100 squats per 4min. then I'm doing great as that is ultimately what i'll have to be able to do to complete GUTS at the elite level. More as it comes!

Man that GUTS thing was rough! I think in large part it was because I did so much walking today. I just had a bunch of work errands to run downtown, and hoofed it. I was trying to spend my mental energy on my goals, and picturing the future as I continue to reach them.

I feel like I did well today, form was a little suffering, but I was keeping the time on point. Especially considering I upped a few things. Overall, I'm annoyed about the weight, and honestly I didn't eat anything today that is going to help, but so it goes sometimes. For now I will continue to push the workouts and hopefully get myself back on track foodwise, so I can keep seeing those numbers going down.

Big Picture, pretty pleased with things. Just looking for that extra kick to get the rest of the way.
