Hi everyone, for the last 2 weeks both my shoulders have been real sore daily, the soreness is on the sides of the shoulders. I guess thats the lateral porition, I am still doing my G.U.T.S. routine 5 days per week, I am thinking maybe I am going to low on the Atlas iii push-ups, I try to go real low when I do them, so maybe I might just do military push-ups and hindu push-ups for a while and see if that may help, the hindu push-ups dont bother me at all, after my workout I massage my shoulders or my wife will to try to help reduce some of the pain, If anyone has anysuggestions that would be great, one positive thing to this post, is that those darn obliques that I use to whine about are shrinking while on this great G.U.T.S routine, I am lookung foreward to Johns new book when it comes out, and I can try some of the different push-up routines in it, thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

hey Dynogoalie30,
Your own suggestions could not be better. Please make sure that you follow your own advice and let us know how your shoulders feel as a result.

Thaking a complete break once in a while might not hurt either. :island:
How about just doing a Atlas Sit-Up and Tiger Bend Squat specialization week? (Giving the shoulders a full weeks rest to heal.)
I know I don't like to take breaks either. But sometimes it might be just the wisest thing to do. Decide for yourselve.

I also have rotator cuff problems. Try doing guts, but with palms in chin ups instead of push ups for awhile.
You will get a great biceps workout plus chest involvmement. I then end my current guts with one set of 50 military push ups. I am currently using an 8 inch stepper and have pushed this component to over 500, with my chins now over 30. On day two I work the ISO Belt hard and walk. Day 3 is just walk, light Isos, then back to guts on day 4. You will find this a great substitute workout until your shoulder heals.
Good Luck

You do 2 sets of 30 chins?

Yep, actually the first set fails at 31, the second at 28. Remember, these are the palms facing in variety, a little easier than palms out. I've always been good at these going all the way back to high school. I always wanted to hit 50 of these, probably impossible. Does anyone know John P's max?

I believe John said he can do 57 pull ups. Presumably he could do quite a few more chin ups than 57, since they're easier.

Thanks for the suggestions, GregL I like that idea of the close grip chins, you said you use an 8 in. stepstool, is that for your push-ups or for step-ups? your pull-up numbers are great, how many sets of pull-ups do you do in a workout? Last night and sunday I did military push-ups in my G.U.TS. workouts, and my shoulders did not bother me, tonight I will try hindu push-ups. I really enjoy doing Atlas ll and Atlas ll pus-ups, so I hope this little problem will heal soon, so I can start to do them again, thanks again everyone, and GregL keep up the great work on those pull-ups.

I use the 8 in stepstool for the step ups. I am real careful about my push ups and right now, only do regular military style. I am also thinking about working in some Hindu style for a change. I am a former powerlifter who has torn the rotator cuff in two places, so I have to be careful. My chins consist of 2 sets only, Guts style.
The Guts style workout seems such a simple template, but that is its strength. It is about the best workout I have come across. Don't rush your shoulder rehab, take it slow and heal well.

Thank you GregL for the tips, I have got 2 bad rotator cuffs also, one from a slip at work 10 yrs. ago and the other from a hockey injury, I need to be very careful about warming up good, the military push-ups and the hindu push-ups are going to form the push-up part of my G.U.T.S program for now, You are right, you cant beat the G.U.T.S workout, when John came out with it , he came out with a truly great workout program, keep us posted on your G.U.T.S workout GregL , it sounds like your doing great on it. take care.
