I have a question I'd like to ask Larry. How important do you think it is for someone to learn how to incorporate the OODA Loop in your self defense program? I wanted to get your opinion because I posted this question on another forum and your name came up when a person answered.

Of course, anyone else who has an opinion is free to answer this question, too. :male-fighter1:

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

hhhhhhmmmmm....I'm surprised that you don't know what the OODA Loop is, Larry. OODA stands for Observe, Orient, Decide, Act. It is also known as the Boyd Cycle because it was developed by Colonel John Boyd. In a nutshell, it was first used to describe victory in air-to-air combat, but then Colonel Boyd expanded the theory so that it would defeat the enemy by "psychological paralysis".

If you go to http://www.valuebasedmanagement.net/methods_boyd_ooda_loop.html you'll be able to read about it in more detail. It is basically a decision making process that can be used in a wide variety of areas, not just in combat.

Hope that helps explain it, Larry.

Hi Arnold,

Thanks for the information. I read the book that was written about him. Sorry, I did not put two and two together. I think that his concepts to air warfare and the street ahve many concepts that are the same. However it is still up to everyone that trains to recognize and respond to a threat in a way that increases their odds of survival and not jeperdize it with inappropriate actions or training.

Great question Arnold, and I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving.

Be safe, your friend, Larry
