the article quotes " CNBC, however, has been paying very close attention and keeping a running tally of actual spending as well as the commitments involved. And there's been quite a jump since we last tabulated things two weeks ago.
Try $7.36 trillion dollars. That's more than double what was spent on WW II, if adjusted for inflation, based on our computations from a variety of estimates and sources. "
$7.36 trillion is even a lot in Washington

Tht article is very interesting, but it leaves out the cost of The War On Terror. Everyone was assuming that after victory in Iraq that the $10 billion cost per month of the Iraq war would go away. What they overlooked is that Afghanistan will be a much more difficult and expensive war than Iraq. After the weekend attacks in India the possibility exists that it may turn into a regional war including Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. We have to fight, but it is going to cost and we are going to need financial assistance from our allies.

Gordon that is just the cost of the Economic bailout for the federal government not the cost to the States or citizens. Well it is better than a Depression.
The Mubao Attack should awaken America and the World. The War on terror is not over. I'd preferr using counter terror, take the War to the terrorists, they start awakening up dead they learn not to play games. The Pakistani and Afghan Mafia would be happy to help and I bet the Intelligence they supply would be first rate. They can also be paid to interdict narcotics that the terrorist sell around the World.

Several experienced international intelligence agents have stated that the recent attack in India was the most sophisticated and and well planned that they have seen including 9/11. It was well planned, well financed, and took time which does not say much for India's intelligence capability - they should have picked up some indication along the way. I have always believed that all of the Islamic Terrorists Orgainizations worked together. I never bought the fact that Iraq and 9/11 weren't connected. Even when I was in Intelligence during the cold war the agencies never revealed all that they knew as they wanted to be in a position to keep on monitoring the network. Pakistan is where they believe that Osama Bin Laden is located and Al-Qaeda has bases there as well as training camps. It looks to me like there is a terrorist plan afoot to unite Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India and in leau of that play them off of eachother. Pakistan and India both are nuclear countries and both have the bomb. To my way of thinking The War On Terror will trump the economy over the next few years as survival comes ahead of everything and the terrorists hope to gain control by destabilizing modern industrial/ technical economies.

It already has - believe me all of the players, even the least perceptive of them, had to receive the message.

Mumbai changed the rules and also the game. It tooks months to plan, train and prepare for the Mumbai raid. India is blaming Pakistan and it appears India is correct. Pakistan is dodging claming the ISI (Pakistani CIA; that sponsors Islamic Terrorist Groups) was not involved.
If New York, San Francisco or other Port Cities was invaded by Terrorists using the Sea to ship into the USA we would be outraged! This will be happneing now around the world, gordon your so right, the terrorist having upped the game!

I do have trouble believing that the main Pakistan government was involved. That would just be too obvious and they have to be smarter than that. It may be a rogue element of the Pakistani Govenment or a submerged agent. Remember that according to the history Channel's theory of the Kennedy Assasination, "The Men Who Killed Kennedy" it was a rouge element from the CIA and the mafia that pulled it off. Done well ,it is almost impossible for anyone to know after all of the red herrings, disinformation, and misdirection done by professionals in compartmentalized organizations is involved. We are dealing with conceptual thinkers and not quantitative thinkers. It sure would be great for the terrorists though if they could bate India and Pakistan against each other- just like the corporate political game "let's you and he fight."
