I was at church on Sunday talking with a friend about how frustrating I find the game of golf:at-wits-end:, he suggested that I take up disc golf. I have played this game about 15 years ago, but back then we just took our wham-o frisbees to the park and picked out "holes." (really just an object you had to ultimately hit with your frisbee) I knew about a park not far from my house that features a disc golf course, so I went out a purchased a starter set for about $25. Less than a half an hour later I was on the course having fun, walking and enjoying the weather. I love that there are no green fees, tee times and no real dress code. People were having fun throwing frisbees in the park and people were walking from hole to hole; no carts. So, you may want to check it out too. There are courses popping up all over the country. There are also people playing at the pro-level. So, it is challenging as well as fun.:good:

I've played disc golf before and found it pretty fun, but it can't take the place of real golf!

You do have a few good points there though. No carts, green fees, or dress code. That is a nice little break and it would help you get into better shape. Most golfers these days are ALWAYS ridding a cart because they say it's takes way to long to walk, but personally I would rather walk than ride any day of the week!

I read up on disc golf over the summers. It looked really fun, but we don't have any courses around here! As I was researching I ran across an article saying someone was working on the funding to get a course put in a local park here. The article made it sound like it was going to be any day now, but it was dated 2003

Maybe I should just put my own up in my backyard.

Joe as I was reading your post I was thinking of your backyard as seen in the videos and I was thinking Joe's got a great place for a course, his own back yard. Then you closed with that thought.

You're backyard is an excellent course you don't need the chain baskets "holes" that a real course has, just think like a kid would when laying out a game. This tree is 1 that tree is two, that rock is 3, that whatever is 4, etc. The advantage you have is you can reorder and change your course at the drop of a hat. Have fun with with it.

Here's an idea. On some days you could make it a biathalon. Combine the frisbee golf with exercises. You do something on each "hole". TBS, rope climb, Atlas pushups, etc.

Great game to do with friends!

Check out www.pdga.com for a course near you. I'm lucky to have three near me.
