View Full Version : The Importance of Vision

It is no secret how much I enjoy this forum and how much I consider it a blessing. Oftentimes, I am intimidated by the high quality of writing and how well ideas and concepts are communicated, so I just soak up the information. Daily, I learn something new. That said, I want to share a few thoughts that have been going through my mind lately.

I just spoke to John a little bit ago. Over the past few years, I can say that John is a good friend. Many of you know that he will take time out of his busy schedule to visit with you. He is a tremendous encourager and reflects the love of God in every conversation. He is genuine, honest, and passionate about his calling, faithful to that path, and diligent to put his hand to the plow and work the ground God has given him to work.

I attended Oral Roberts University over 20 years ago. I say that not to start a debate or discussion on the merits or flaws of the man. I want to point out simply, his mission and vision. His stated purpose was to raise up men and women to hear the voice of God and send them into every man’s world. The idea behind that is to send Doctors, business people, artists (music, theater, etc.), teachers, and yes, preachers of the Gospel to the world. Additionally, the way this would be accomplished would be to educate the whole man, body, mind, and spirit. While attending, every student was required to keep records of their exercise and report it using the Kenneth Cooper point system. We were required to pass fitness tests every semester. In fact, Oral himself was an avid runner well into his later years. He stressed not just spiritual growth and maturity in Christ, but encouraged us to pursue academic and physical excellence as well.

In the nineties, Promise Keepers became a prominent movement to motivate Christian men to be, well, men ... to man up. I felt this was a good thing that hopefully motivated men to get out of their apathy and reengage as the godly leaders they should be.

Why do I share all of this? In speaking with John, watching the evolution of this forum, and hearing his vision, I am convinced that there are men that God is raising up to take even further the missions and visions of previous ministries. I am not suggesting that other ministers or ministries will be replaced. I am suggesting that we are a part of a move of God here on this forum. No, it’s not a “Christian” forum per se. It is a forum founded by a Christian and populated by many who are Christians. Much of what is communicated here is simply health and fitness related. But realize that there is a strong biblical perspective (world view) at work in what is communicated here. In fact, if you search through the archives and read the thorough history sections of John’s books, you will find that John has encouraged everyone to improve in all facets of their lives – body, mind, and spirit.

In my humble opinion, I truly believe this forum will have a hand in the impact that John, Mike, Joe, and Greg are able to take on the road to their seminars. Is John or any of the other men mentioned perfect? By no means. They are fallible men. I have no illusions to the contrary. But they are men called to carry on a message for such a time as this.

Thank you, gentlemen.

Max very well written and thought out and a message ofr our time. Men have stopped being men in large parts of America. Are not the fathers and grandfathers that many of us us older guys were raised with and the Christian ways seem to have faded from with that. Old fashioned can be good and this forum draws decent people. Bless you all.

Max my friend,

I have always had a special place in my heart for you. I've tried to encourage you in the hard times, and at the very least, I kept you in my prayers. As well, you've done the same for me. Thank you for your contribution to this forum, and thank you for being my friend.

You may not remember, but way back you even encouraged me to stick around here when I found some things uncomfortable to my Christian beliefs. I stayed and John and I eventually became good friends as well. Thank you for encouraging me to stay because now I have become a part of this ministry toward the whole man.

During one of my "semesters" attending my church's Men's Ministry, we watched a video series titled “Authentic Manhood”, or something to that effect.

One of the things I really enjoyed about the series was the definition of “A Real Man From a Biblical Mold”.

Per this series an authentic man:

Rejects passivity
Accepts responsibility
Leads courageously

For some reason, I felt the need to find this definition recently. Now, I think it is fitting to post in this thread.

I know we are talking about men of God. But, I believe this definition is of a man period.

Rob,

I appreciate your post for this reason ... Throughout the country, and according to my missionary friends, the world, there is a resurgence of men exhibiting a hunger for God and his ways. This is why you had the need to find that definition. In the times in which we live, it is encouraging and motivating to see this happening. It is no accident. God is not caught off guard by the things that are happening in the world today. He doesn't wake up one morning and say, "Wow, I didn't see that coming." I have been attending a men's Bible study on Friday mornings for the last seven years, and according to the man leading it, there are small groups of men across the country starting up. Many may not even be attending a local church, but they are hungry and drawn to the things of God and see the necessity for the fellowship, relationship, and accountability.

Hey Max,

It has been difficult for me to respond to what you have written because I feel humbled. So let me just say, Thank You My Friend. I appreciate the friendship and encouragement that you have brought to me Max. You have faced a great deal and you have persevered. Your best days are just now coming to you. They are ahead of you and not behind you. I'm honored to have you for a friend.

And thanks go to each of you, my other friends. Thank you for proving yourselves true and loyal friends. As many of you are aware we are now in the process of moving forward toward our destiny in ways that were not planned but brought to each of us through our collective divine destinies. It is no accident that you are here. Everything that Max has stated resonates as true with me. God has brought us together with Michael Galiga whom I have mentioned several times and will continue to mention. We have a message for Godly men and those who want to be. Which brings up another point. Do not be surprised if any of you are asked to be interviewed by us for television. Much more on that later.

In addition, many of you will be featured in upcoming books and DVDs on motivation and all facets of personal development including natural strength and physical development. (Max, you are among them)We are all in for quite a ride.

You know, faithfulness and diligence is rewarded. I don't believe in luck for that reason. But what I do know is that "God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6). As you stated, John, the path you are on was not something that you scripted. This is a "God" thing. And this forum is something that God has and is using greatly in my life.

Greg, I do indeed remember appealing to you. You are a leader and a tremendous communicator and teacher. This forum would be good and excellent, but not great. I do appreciate your friendship too. You have been a great encourager.
