Speaking to your from way down deep in the tunnel of age, comparatively speaking, my answer now would be as little as possible.

From my teens through my forties I wanted to be bigger. I have no intention of trying to get you to change your mind - nobody could have changed mine. And in the end it didn't matter.

From late forties, I wanted to get rid of everything I had gained. I'll keep the strength as much as possible, but no thank you to the weight and bulk.

So, I'll let someone else give you a satisfying answer.

How about this, find tha weight that allows you to do the most pull-ups of bodyweight possible? I have a 99% chance that you will thank me when you get to 50's, 60's, and beyond.

Of course, for all I know the original poster could be an 80 year old. What do I know.
