coming from weights (5 years ago) im finding it difficult to guage my intensity on pushups. i've been doing 100 atlas pushups per workout but i seem to overdo it and cant even do them every other day. more like every 3 days. i know its all in my head but i can't seem to shake the 'intensity builds immensity' thing. i know to get optimal results body composition and mass wise using high volume pushups i need to do them at least every other day. thoughts? thanks guys

Try mixing the Atlas Pushups with some fast ,partial, sprint type, push ups on different days.

Hey Beavis,
Don't sweat it my friend. There is a natural period of re-adaptation that takes place when transitioning to Enduring Strength. What I recommend that you do is follow Phase I exactly as found in my soon to be released "Hard Times---The Body You Want In The Time You Have". It features a program that allows you to train daily without over taxing the CNS in the least while making extraordinary gains.

Thanks John. i think im just taking each set too close to failure. 100-200 reps a day might be the right volume for me as my body adjusts. when is your book dedicated to pushups being released? im going to keep at it. thanks

Jack King did them sprinting style, but only twice a week, I believe. I think there's a big difference between doing slow, full range and sprinting, partial range. Alternating between the two might be a worthwhile experiment.
Also, do some other variations like Tiger Stretch, Standard, Superman and even different grips; wide, and close. Make sure you're mixing some other exercises in too.
Are you doing any chinning?
