If I had to limit myself to one person as a guide in the journey to optimal fitness, it would be John Peterson. John, thank you for your teachings from which I have derived great benefits as one of your many students.

John has a number of new books in the works. I'm looking forward to there release. Will the Rod Fisher book be training, diet or both?

Hey PatCNJ,

All of Rod's books will include strength and fitness exercise but each book will have a primary focus. His first book will focus on maximized athletic performance through a comprehensive Vegan nutritional approach. Something he lives.

But allow me to let you in on a little bit of a secret. One of the things that Rod practices is a system of deep breathing that allows him to do extraordinary things. Consider, Rod practices a deep breathing meditation for 30 minutes each day where he inhales and exhales 30 times in 30 minutes. And yes you read that right 30 times in 30 minutes.

This is a level of breath control that only advanced practitioners can achieve such as has been documented at the Menninger Clinic in their studies with Yogi's that Gordon has often referenced in his writings. I'm convinced that this is one of the reasons that Rod has such an extraordinary strength to body weight ratio. But it isn't surprising to me at all. You see, when Rod was a young gymnast in high school one of his specialties was the rope climb. In terms of sheer athleticism and strength to body weight ratio no single event requires more strength, speed, endurance, timing, coordination and balance. But guess what it was that Rod mastered in order to become the master of the rope climb? Three guesses and two don't count. B-R-E-A-T-H C-O-N-T-R-O-L. Seriously, having extraordinary upper body strength is a given but when you are racing against the best of the best it comes down to how well you can keep your muscles oxygenated. This is one of the main reasons Rod has the kind of strength and ripped musculature that he has today when other men at age 64 think the best of their lives is past. NOT ROD FISHER. ROD BELIEVES THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

Believe me friends. This man has extraordinary knowledge and teaching that is second to none. He will be sharing it with us through his books and DVD's.

Yeah as soon as I saw the photgraphs of Rod I thought M7 DVR exercise and an Atlas DVR. 30 breaths in one minute is extreme breath control, Rod is a Breath Master and my bet is Christian Meditation if he is John's friend!

John,

If you hadn't said this was Rod Fisher, I'd have sworn it was Clint Eastwood! Especially in that first pic. :glasses-cool:

Hey Joe,

Several people have said that. And I agree, I can see a strong resemblance in that first picture to Clint Eastwood. But get this, when Mike Galiga met Rod he said that Rod's obvious fitness and physique reminded him of the actor Roy Scheider in Marathon Man. In other words it was obvious that Rod was in great shape and "ripped to the bone". If you were to talk with Rod about his training he would tell you that although he loves doing Atlas III's, Pull-Ups, and the whole spectrum of what we teach, that DVR is the one thing that he has mastered that has given him the youthful strength and energy to enjoy the Power Calisthenics.

Now let me tell you something else, although I am not a full fledged Vegan (I'm 90% of the way there) my wife is. After seeing "Food inc." and "Fresh" Denise said to me, "Johnny, I'm never eating meat again." And she hasn't. This is in no small part due to Rod's influence on her. At age 49 my Denise has the kind of figure that 19 year old girls aspire to having and when she talks about the importance of nutrition, many of the young women are now paying close attention to every word she says. After all, when they see how stunning she is they can't believe her age.

I just discovered this thread, so pardon the bump, but Rod is ripped!

When I was practicing pranayama (breath control), I got to a little under 2 breaths a minute (15 seconds in, 15 seconds out, sometimes as much as 20/20) and thought I was doing pretty well, considering I have a huge lung capacity. 60 seconds for one breath is a long time, especially for 30 minutes. It takes time to build up to such tremendous breath control!

Man, that's fantastic - 30 times in 30 minutes!

Do you inhale for 30 seconds and exhale for 30 seconds during the minute and then repeat the same pattern for 30 minutes?

I've been Vegan 8 years so really looking forward to Rod's book!

I am looking forward to his instructions on breath control as that has been my most difficult area
