John,

I ran into this article yesterday...

http://news.aol.com/health/article/growth-hormone-as-a-fountain-of-youth/269898

It's a lengthy article about various surgical and pharmaceutical techniques being used to reverse the aging process. There's some really interesting stuff in here. Though the headline mentions HGH the articles talks about everything from six pack ab implants to Botox. It also discusses a little of the history of how human have always searched for "The Fountain Of Youth".

Particularly knowing you're working on your Virility book, I'd like to get your thoughts on some of this stuff.

The desire for a youth tonic will continue to grease the wheels of capitalism esp. since geezers like me are always looking for an "unfair" advantage

I remember as the Rambo and Rocky movies came out over the last year and half, Stallone got tangled in an HGH scandal. He ultimately went on to tout the beneifits of HGH and said that it would be over the counter in 10 years.

Looking at the size of his HEAD in those movies should scare any reasonable person away from it in my book. It was grotesque.

Hey MTS,

I know what you mean. Although I understand the desire to remain young forever, I'd much prefer to do it the way my friend Noel Johnson did.

From the article:

'"I can't tell you in words how great I feel," says the man who used to crack open a Pepsi to get him through the day.'

So, now instead of a Pepsi to get him through the day, he just needs weekly hormone injections costing well over $1000 a month? The article at points sounds more like a paid advertisement for Cenegenics than objective journalism. If you're a millionaire (as the Detwiler guy mentioned in the article is) that can afford that type of thing then to each their own, but for us normal folk a healthy mix of pushups, squats, etc. and balanced diet are all you need to get the hormones pumping.

Right on Scuba Steve-O. Absolutely right on. Not only that, but taking injections will shut down the bodies ability to produce it's own HGH. Not a good thing.

Geezers can only hope that GH production can be stimulated with intense exercise

When I read this on AOL; did wonder if 98% to 99% of Dr. Jeffery Life's development was simply exercise and good eating! HRH is supoosed to cause cancer.

Better a live geezer than sleeping in a coffin in the cemetary forever.

For a great reference on natural stimulation of HGH production, read "Ready Set, Go....Fitness by Phil Campbell. A book written by a man in his 50's who trains athletes and others to use anaerobic exercise combined with diet and proper suplementation to increase the body's HGH levels. A great companion volume to PYTP. The methods in both books are easily combined for anyone wishing to attempt training the natural way. Campbell also discusses injections, secretatogues and stacks of supplement used to achieve increased HGH production. Campbell practices what he preaches and is a picture of fitness like John.

I have the worthwhile Campbell book but I'm s a skeptic about glutamine & GH release. Nonetheless, sprints( even non running ones) that spike one's heartrate is a good training adjunct
