Wow! That was great, And Donna, what a great observation. But you know there was something really special about the paintings that seemed to capture a "presidential look". I was really amazed at how seamlessly they moved from one to the next and the next.

When I saw President Obama and his incredible smile I thought immediately that based upon what the media is telling us, and what our new President is walking into, that might be one of the few times that we see that wonderful smile. Seriously friends, we need to pray for our new President. I can't think of any man in history that ever walked into a tougher situation. And it's obvious that he is being tested even before his inauguration.

Very cool!

P.S. John, I'd bet Ronald Reagan could think of a incoming president that had it worse.

Joe, you're right that President Reagan had a big challenge. I remember it well.

President-elect Obama's stepping into the worst economy that in many ways we've had since the Great Depression...plus two wars...is, in my opinion, a quantum leap harder and more scary. This doesn't detract from what any president did.

I like that! Thank you Alan.

Yes the stock market is having it's worst time since the Great Depression, the feds are flooding the system with cash to stop this becoming a Depression. Right now it is 7.3 Trillion not the 750 Million bailout alone. That was smart and Obama plans on a One Trillion further when he comes to office to continue that program. Next year in the third quater we'll see a turn around, the stcok market heads up before a recession ends, it is forward looking.

rubberbus, I have to disagree with you. I don't think the war was wasted in Iraq. It was a well chosen first step in the war on terror in the gulf region in my opinion. From a strategic point of view it was a much easier target than Afghanistan is going to be and our efforts in Afghanistan will be helped by having the war in Iraq won. We can now phase out of Iraq while not decreasing troops there for a year to help stabilize the area, but as Robert Gates says we will be in Iraq for a long time. As the war on terror intensifies the cost of the war in Iraq will seem small and we will need our allies to put some money into the effort. I am not sure the war in Afghanistan can be won,but if anybody can it will be the team that has been trained for the task and succeeded in Iraq- Gates and General Petraeus. Staging is a valid military principle and it has worked well in this case. Remember that Alexander the Great,Ghengis Khan and in 10 years the Russians could not Conquer Afghanistan.

I agree and where ever possible we should do that. Nobody in their right mind wants war,but it has been unavoidable throughout the history of the world. We all hope for the day, that will probably not come in any of our lifetimes, when the human race has evolved to the point where we can all live in peace.

Hey Guys,

History looks different when looking forward rather than in the rear view mirror. But let's be real. The economy of the entire world is at risk of imploding. For that reason it seems to me that the terrorists would be busy preparing a major offensive strike as soon as possible because it could literally feed the deepest fears of people worldwide and create ultimate economic chaos and crisis. That's what I'm guessing is likely to happen. But time will tell.

Terrorism is a very complicated thing. I personally believe that Iraq was the best target available to start the process.
1. Saddam Hussein was a vicious tyrant and as sociopathic killer.
2. He was supplying arms to enemies of our ally Israel
3, He was giving cash awards to the surviving parents of suicide bombers who lost their lives in actions
against our ally Israel.
4. Iraq has terrain and a climate that is militarily beneficial compared with other possible targets in the area.
5. Iraq had a history of centralized governments
6. Iraq had one of the most highly educated populations in
the area.
6. Afghanistan has been a highly prized target of conquest over the centuries and has been the grave yard
of conquerors for a variety of reasons.
7. The myth that Iraq was not connected to an international terrorist organization was never true and a misconception of the media. The best proof of this is the change in President Elect Obama's approach to Iraq now that he has seen the highly classified information that was not available to him during his campaign. He is keeping the full contingent of troops in Iraq for at least one year while expanding the troop strength for the war against terror in Afghanistan.
