Hi all,
My wife and her family are dealing with a situation currently.
Her sister, the middle daughter, has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. She noticed something out of the ordinary for a while, but didn’t think it was anything to worry about, until others encouraged her to get it checked out.
She’s at a stage 3-B, which apparently is fairly advanced. Fortunately, however, all tests indicate the cancer is only in the one breast and a few nodes.
The planned treatment was for her to undergo chemo, and then have a mastectomy. Even just starting with the insertion of the port, they’ve run into complications.
They nicked her lung during the procedure, which required her to stay an extra day or two in the hospital.
This past Monday was her first round of chemo. And, everything seemed to go as normal. However, on Tuesday she had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. She was VERY weak, and not very responsive to anyone around her. After a load of tests, it was first determined that she had an infection, which was not caught by the blood tests they give immediately before administering chemo. They now think the infection is/was somehow related to the port, and have removed it.
While she’s apparently now behaving like her “old self”, her blood levels are still low as her body continues to fight off the infection. And, she’s in the hospital for an undetermined period of time.
She currently lives in the Richmond area of Virginia. And, the family WAS planning on all meeting at their parent’s new house in Tennessee for Christmas. Right now, it’s unclear whether or not she will be allowed to travel for that get together.
Please pray for this young lady whose life is/was finally turning around for the better. After a not so nice divorce a few years ago, she’s found a gentleman who seems like a really nice guy. All members of the family like him. And, he’s spoken to my father-in-law about marrying her :)
Thanks to you all.
