John,

Generally when I work out I feel as though I can generate so much tension in DVRs that the muscle wants to burst out of my skin. Every now and then I find that I'll have a work out where I can't get the normal tension level that I'm use to.

Do you find this happens to you? What do you think the reason for it is?

Just curious.

Its happened to me a couple times but then I learned to control my tension so the exercise goes smoothly. If you can generate a lot of tension then you can learn to control moderate tension. Don't do too much tension all the time that can cause strains in the joints and tendons. I believe the reason this happens cause in your mind you want to generate as much power as you can and it is tempting to go all out in a set. Listen to your body and learn t control your thoughts. The more you can control your thoughts the more you can control the tension in DVRs.

DJ, I think what you're describing here is using so much tension that you're actaully doing an isometric powerflex rather than DVRs. Like Benny said, you need to control the tension with your mind. The more you practice this, the better you'll get at it.

None of us have the same energy levels and the same levels of mental intensity everyday. Listen to your body and exercise accordingly.

Thanks for the replies.

It just is sort of strange that i can control the tension and get a huge pump most of the time. For me the braking action is the key as It is what allows me to really contract the opposing muscles but it's just strange that ever now and then I can't generate the tension I want. I don't find I'm tired or anything it's just very strange. Oh well!

Thanks,

DJ

Keep trying and eventually you will break through those limitations.

Hello DJ,

I too, have experienced exactly what you are referring to in your post. And frankly, the advice you have been given is "spot on". As far as 'why?' this happens, I don't really know, but I think it is relatively easy to over tax one's Central Nervous System without even being aware of it.
