Hey Larry,
I have got a question for you or anyone else who could give us advice. You might know that we live in the Dominican Republic and serve as missionaries here. Lately, because of economic times, it has become increasingly dangerous here. There have been some kidnappings, carjackings, robberies and so on. Many times there is a need for self defense where there wasn't a couple of years ago. My question is, is there any book or style of martial arts that you would recommend for my family and I to study for protection? I know my boys and would do the best we could but every bit more we know the better.
If the people in the streets see any kind of criminal activity, it is bad for the criminal. The neighborhood watch is pretty brutal. Many times they kill the criminal. There have been known to be hangings, stoneings, beatings and so on.

Okay, new question. Sorry, now I have a new one. This morning when I asked you a question, I had done a search on your name. Believe it or not, I had misspelled Wick. Now I found where your dvds are, which one would you recommend and also are there any typing programs that you would recommend? :giggle:
Thank you,

Aaron IMHO the fastest and easiiest Martial Art to learn is Boxing, yes it started as a Martial Art and became a Sport. Mix in this http://fliiby.com/file/829434/i36aopbx1a.html The Classic Strikes – From Dennis Martin’s Combatives Community or McSweeney's Nine Power Strikes while using Boxing and you have a powerful, flexible Martial Art, easy to learn and fast. I recommend you read Larry's new thread. Add Wrestling to Boxing and you have a Mixed Martial Art.
In view of the serious nature of crime there it might be nessary to have weapons. Aaron sent you a Private Message.

Hi Aaron,
Go to my website and and give me a call. I need your mailing address so I can send something that may be of some help. I love alll types of self defense and I think it all may be helpful. My own opinion is boxing, though an excellent art to learn will only get you hurt or killed. Boxing is for hurting someone, not survivng, and the chances of that are small if your attacker is bigger than you. You cannot focus on the real problem if you are trying to box someone. That is, the person that you do not see. Always carry a comb, be ready to use it, I will send you a dvd how, and as always never engage and take it to ;the level needed. Contact me soon. Your friend , Larry

Thank you both Mike and Larry. I will contact you (Larry) tonight or tomorrow. I will be stepping out here in an hour or so. I get to go help an older missionary gentleman who needs some help. After that, I have to go help some folks clear customs. It doesn't seem like a full day but the way things move down here I will be getting back this afternoon.

I bought the package of all of Larry's SSS videos and they are excellent. As he mentions above, there's a huge difference between fighting techniques that are meant to go toe-to-toe with someone (or in a ring type situation with one opponent in a controlled environment) and those whose goal is to survive. Larry nails it with these videos.

Larry you must have been in New York lol they use to steel pockets combs and some carried a rat tail comb that were dirty. Larry I don't use Sport Boxing, but Pugno, a form of Pankration. Boxing gives people the skill and the Dirty forms give you the attack methods. On the street in the inner city where I was on duty, there are loads of Karate, Kung fu and Martial Arts Experts, and some are real, and they all avoided the Boxer's. It seemed to me that Boxing and Judo on the street were the two real forms of self defense.

This is Stacy, Aaron's wife. He just stepped out for a few hours but wanted me to let you know that he is really interested in contacting you but our phone goes through our internet and with the recent bad weather, our internet has been too slow for phone calls. He is hoping to get back on here and answer some posts and hopefully contact you this week. Thanks for your patience and thanks for all the good advice.
