Hey Mark,

Nice physique and flexes. It's cool to see the video, because you're far ahead of me and I'm aiming to look similar to your build...rather than being another John Peterson.

Thanks for posting the video!

Cool, Mark. Keep messing around. Try working with a single bulb, dark background, etc., shadows, shadows. Check out some of those old black and white clips. It seems to me those old flexing routine showed movement, flexibility in the joints, not just muscle size, proportion, or static images. Real cool.

Keep it up,
Tom

Mark,

You look pretty good for just fooling around. How much of the training methods promoted here do you credit for your physique? Also, you used to be a personal trainer. At what point did you decide to shuck the weights and go to the exercises John recommends? The reason I ask is that I used to be a diehard ironhead, but after being busted up I had to find an alternative. It would be nice to know if someone switched over out of an intellectual decision as opposed to a necessity.

Hey Mark,

You are looking great!

If you don't mind sharing, what does your current training consist of?
Forgive me if this has already been asked & answered elsewhere.

Take care,
Steve

I have received numerous emails regarding what my workout consists of. I have come up with certain theories and techniques to enhance muscular size and shape using a variety of tools. I combine DVR, isos, the Bullworker, gymnastic rings, and resistance bands in my workouts. Normally, I train every 2 days to enhance recuperation since I am so sore after my workouts. I train whole body each time with short rest times to maximize hormone release and blood flow. After training a bodypart, I rest 5 mins to MAXIMIZE BLOOD FLOW AND NUTRIENTS to the working muscle. I got this tip from George Turner, an old-time bodybuilder. I feel this is very impt. Too many people go too fast from one exercise to the next and the blood flow is, in my opinion, the key to maximize size.

Next, keep your workouts short and concise. Dont confuse things. Don't overcomplicate things. Short rest times are very impt to changing HOW your body looks. I do no aerobic activiity but can do a 5 mile run with no problems; thanks to my workouts. Post-workout: eat no sugars or anything for about 30 mins to maximize GH release. once you eat something insulin is secreted and GH plummets.

Diet: control insulin release. Minimize carbs. Dont fall into the 5-6 meal a day trap. I look so much better on 2-3 meals and tons of good fats. I will post my recent blood work soon. YOu will be shocked by the numbers and what I eat.

Rep speed: Explosiveness!! Quick, controlled reps are the best I have found. Don't confuse actually movement with INTENTION. Just because the "thing" isn't moving fast doesn't mean you aren't trying to move it as fast as possible. Also, partial reps with continous tension are great to maximize blood flow and fatigue the muscle.

Finally, alternate periods of volume and intensity. I do 3 weeks volume and then back way off volume and keep intensity high but way less total work. This tip is from Coach Sommer from gymnasticbodies.com

Post workout: Feel refresehd and slightly tired but not overly taxed, which only depletes the nervous system and causes all kinds of problems. I used to do ultra HIT and actually lost alot of muscle b/c of a lack of volume and CNS depression.

I will be posting youtube exercise soon now that I got the hang of it. Remember guys, MY GOAL is looking good and not performance. Phil(and he looks terrific for a man in his 40's) can bust out those T pushups fantastically and that's a wonderful thing but I have no desire to achieve performance goals so tailor your training towards your goals.
