I love articles like this in mainstream muscle mags...

http://www.menshealth.com/cda/article.do?site=MensHealth&channel=fitness&category=muscle.building&topic=arms&conitem=d2f999edbbbd201099edbbbd2010cfe793cd____&page=1

The funny thing is the article starts with:

This is not your father's push up. Or your coach's. Or your drill sergeant's. The push up has been reborn as a muscle builder, a back saver, and an athletic supporter.

Then it goes on to describe just plan 'ol standard push-ups. :act-up:

Of course by the end they're telling you to put weight plates on your back and such. But it is a muscle mag, they have to put some kind of iron into a workout lest they scandalize the muscle heads.

Oh yeah, at the end of the article:

How Pushups Can Win You the Heisman

Running back Herschel Walker claimed pushups were his only muscle-building exercise, and he won a Heisman Trophy and gained more than 13,000 yards in two professional football leagues. Outfielder Ted Williams did 50 to 100 fingertip pushups a day, and he was the Barry Bonds of his era. The great boxers -- Marciano, Ali, Foreman -- did pushups by the hundreds.

Seems like I've read this somewhere before...

Joe;
That's a cool article but I have a queston. How did that guy get that weight plate on his back? Did he toss it in the air and throw himself on the floor below it?:act-up: Now I'm really impressed!

Hey Guys,

Herschel Walker, Woody Strode, Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney all performed standard Push-Ups with no weight added. But hey, those guys are selling weights so what can you expect?

P.S. If I want to perform sets with added weight (which is very rare) I just have my wife sit cross legged on my upper back holding on to my traps. She weighs 125 pounds.

Hey John,

Another variation of this is, I used to have my wife stand up on my buttocks as I did push-ups. She found this to be a good balancing exercise for her. (She would do it bare-footed.)

It also kept my butt down (kept my body flat) while I did standard push-ups.

Hey Friends,

Our resident comedian Joe has just given me a new name for the Push-Ups that you will see in the book where Denise is on my back. "Girl Push-Ups" for the super advanced. Love it Joe.

I have read alot of articles on push ups in my day, but one thing always confuses me. I can never tell if they are talking about stand alone push up routines or incorporating them into a routine your already doing.
