Hi All,
How many of you have already sorted out your training goals?? Or are you already half way through a training phase? Or do you do the same things each day no matter what?
Personally I've been haveing a week off training over Christmas. I've felt burnt out for a few weeks so decided it's best to chill out, eat lots, sleep lots and relax - not paying any attention to training at all (I must admit I've not enjoyed this as much as I thought I would!).
Saying that though I've still been doing my daily Qi Gong as a wake up workout.
Shaolin Stance training for Leg Muscles
One of the things I've recently decided is that I have 2 main training goals:-
1) To gain Muscle Mass
2) To concentrate on my Martial Arts (Mainly Wing Chun)
Obviously I want to get as fit & healthy as possible too (that goes without saying really!!).
One thing I was thinking of adding to my training is Shaolin Stance Training. Years ago, Kung Fu teachers would make their students do lots of stance training before teaching them any other moves. Sometimes for a year of stance training was required before a student would learn anything else.
What do you all think daily practice of the basic stances would achieve?? I was thinking of say a couple of minutes per stance, upto 5 mins per stance. Especially the Horse stance. Would this add size as well as strength?
Has anyone done this kind of training?
What effect would the following have on your lower body if you practiced it daily, or every other day:-

Sure, some of these stances may not be practial in self defence, but for building leg strength & endurance could be excellent.
I'm still going to continue with my twice a week HIT workout but am also considering my martial arts training too. Royce - any suggestions on adding this kind of thing to my routine without effecting my recovery?
I'd love to hear from any other members on their martial arts or related experiences alongside with bodyweight training.
More importantly - is there a way to combine my martial arts with bodyweight/tension exercises so I can do both at the same time??
Anyway, I've rattled on for too long now, hope you are all good and have a great new year.
