shadow,

I'd have to say opportunist. As for nerve force, I'd have to say inept and effete royal assassins try to kill hardy Russian peasant. I guess in a way that is nerve force and the lack thereof.

I have always had an interest in history and biography. I first became interested in Rasputin when I was assigned to do a term paper on him in college. He claimed to have had a vision of the Virgin Mary which he believed and which motivated him. There was a belief structure in a part of Russian Christianity [ the Khlysty sect] that said before you could be saved you had to sin and sin big which he fit rignt into. By any standard the man had a very strong mind and almost hypnotic influence on people at all levels of society. I would consider that quality to be a strong nerve force. For an illiterate peasant to gain the power that he did was almost unheard of. Even before his influence on the Czar and Czarina he had penetrated into the hierarchy of the Russian Orthodox Church, I personally think that many of his powers came from a strong religious belief, eventhough we would not agree with his values by todays standards. His beliefs did not contain the inhibitions of today and in some ways may have been closer to the fanaticism of today's terrorists although they did not include murder. One thing is for sure and that is that he did affect the outcome of history. His death is definitely one of histories mysteries.

Gordon and I have chatted about rasputin before, Russia was a land with many extremeist Relgious and Politcal cults and may have been the first European Nation exposed to yoga and Chi Chung, there was an Asian Russian Population as a source.

Greg: Rasputin was shoot with .45 Smith and Wesson Revolvers; .45s not toys in the least and with cast lead bullets known as stoppers in thier time. A .45 revolver, smokeless powder and a soft lead bullet would be a decisive stopper on most men, plus the clubbing they gave the body with "clubs" would be brutual and kill most people. Rasputin reportedly used breathing and other exercises and I am certain had Nerve Force aplenty. The gay Prince had the assitance of a Right Wing Policeman and others in his plot.

Modern evidance is that he was not poisoned http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grigori_Rasputin amd it notes he was beaten and also stabbed with a blade, probably a saber. Rasputin was shoot four times and the third shoot was to his forehead was fatal, it was followed by a fourth shoot. The water in his lungs might have entered after death. It appears the real killers of Rasputin were British Secret Service hitmen, and he did not survive the attrempt!

Mike, I pretty much dismiss the involvement of British Intelligence in Rasputin's death because it was such a botched and unprofessional job. British Intelligence did have an interest in him and they and Harry Houdini have been alleged by some parties all to have been involved.

Yoga and meditation were present in the Russian Court at that time as mentioned in Rasputin's biography "Rasputin The Man Behind The Myth" which was written by his daughter Maria Rasputin.

The man is a legend and like all legends it is hard to separate the myth for the facts. He definately had to have a very strong mind and had to be very persuasive and charismatic in order to penetrate the aristocracy as an illiterate peasant. Also even though the stories very to some extent almost all of the indicate that he was very hard to kill.. The description in the book "The Murder Of Rasputin" by Greg King is very close to The History Channel Version.

I believe that he was very religious and had a strong religious faith even though his concept of that faith would not be like that of ours today. As Christianity evolved and absorbed various pagan groups it did not always change their practices that soon. Rasputin was pretty tame compared to the practices of some of the Crusaders and others along the way in that transition.

Another individual who was very hard to kill and made no pretense of being a Christian was Blackbeard the Pirate. There has been a lot of coverage of him on the media due to The recent Disney Movie release "Pirates of the Caribbean". "Blackbeard was killed in a bloody battle at Ocracoke Inlet on November 22, 1718. During the action, Blackbeard received a reported five musket ball wounds and more than 20 sword lacerations before dying" Gordon

And legend had it, after his head was cut off and the body thrown into the sea, it swam around the ship three times. The legend, however fantastic, comes from the reality that he was a very hard man to kill.

Rasputin was tough and full of Nerve Force but a .45 revolver bullet in the head would be fatal and instant. I can see British Secret Service Hitmen placing the credit and blame on the Russian Prince and the Russians embellishing Rasputin's toughness in order to enhance thier own reputation's. I doubt Rasputin was alive when they throw him into the water, a bullet in the head sounds fairly final.

Rasputin was the Casey Anthony of the Tsarist final days.

Greg, I have always been fascinated with people who possess unusual abilities. I really enjoyed Stan Lee's "Superhumans" on the History Channel and wish that they would produce some new episodes. On that show it gave examples of people who had unusual abilites because of genetic gifts, but they also had a number of people who developed extreme abilites using the relaxation and visualization techniques taught by Bronze Bow. My experience has been that by using these techniques you can develop a wide range of abilities and precondition yourself for almost any type of life experience. They can add adventure and excitement to anyone's life. Gordon

Mike, I would never discount the ability of some people to survive almost any situtation. If you do a Google search on people who have survived shots to the head you will find that there are a number of them. For a man with Rasputin's will and nerve force to survice long enough to loosen the ropes and raise his hand is not out to the realm of possibility to me especially considering what he had survived to that point. Gordon

"The Cleveland Clinic laboratory technician is back at work and living on his own, less than 23 months after a robber attacked him and a friend after they left a co-worker's birthday celebration. His friend, Jeremy Pechanec, 28, died, and Aebly suffered what doctors at first called a "nonsurvivable" injury that crossed both hemispheres of his brain and left bullet fragments lodged in his skull.

Aebly not only survived, he rebounded, slowly regaining full ability to see, speak, think and read. Doctors caution that recuperation can vary widely, but Aebly and other victims of gunshot wounds to the head say they're proof that Giffords can recover ..."
