Hi Greg,
I've been practicing a particular exercise - the chest flyes while tensing my muscles..also i frequently do push ups DVR style, that means, tensing my muscles while working on the push ups. Lately, I've been experiencing some chest pains a couple of hours after those exercises. I'm worried that I might be straining my heart. I seriously hope that I dont have to give up those chest exercises, but at the same time I do not want to put my heart at risk. Any advise, from you or/and others would definitely be appreciated
Thanks.

Yin Yang, DEFINITELY see a doctor about those chest pains. I have a disclaimer in my illustrated course, and on my DVD, to have a doctor's check-up and positive okay before attempting any of the VRT exercises.
Chest pains could be indicative of angina pectoris, and may indicate cardiovascular disease, and this is something that absolutely should be looked at by a physician. Please do not attempt this any further, okay?
Thanks,
Greg Mangan

Yes, I've already made arrangements to see the cardiologist. Hopefully all goes well. Thanks.

im no doctor, but is there a possibilty theres a point where you use too much tension? I mean a unneccsary amount that causes issues? hence that goes to say one should use or find that level where you get a suffiencent level of tension but not excessive amounts..right?

It's definitely possible, Superbeast.
But it is also definitely possible that this pain indicates a serious life-threatening cardiovascular problem. He needs the opinion of a trained medical expert.
I'm with Greg. Check it out with a doctor and hope that it's just musculoskeletal and not cardiac.

Hi Guys,
I did the cardio tests - ecg, ultra sound, and the stress test with a cardiologist this morning. Thank God, the tests did not show up any heart abnormalities. It could be muscular. I was just wondering if any of the forum members encountered this problem with tension exercises, especially chest exercises, flyes, DVR bench presses or push ups with DVRs. To be honest, these are my favourite exercises and maybe I did go overboard with the tension. was just wondering if others had the same experience.
Thanks for the responses.

Great news, Yin Yang,
I'm so relieved to hear you got a professional opinion and that the cause of the discomfort was musculoskeletal.
You may have injured a tendon or a muscle, or there is the extremely remote possibility that you even fractured a rib (not likely).
The main thing is to exercise in such a way as you feel good instead of feeling bad. A bit of muscle soreness (hurts good) is fine, but a lot of pain likely means you need to take it a bit easier until you have developed a bit more.
You may want to do some hot soaks and take an ant-iinflammatory such as aspirin or ibuprofen. The main rule about musculoskeletal soreness relief is ice packs in the 24 hours following injury and hot packs after that, plus that wonderful herbal remedy, tincture of time. :smile-big:

Thanks Alan for the wonderful advise. As I said, it would be a shame to compeletely give up those chest exercises, but I will be in tune with my body's responses from now onwards. Take care.
