A quick update for those of you interested in using things like the Sharkie for self-defense. I recently bought several at $5/each after the Sharkie was recommended to me by someone on this forum.

A Sharkie is similar to a Sharpie marker, but is larger and FAR stronger than a Sharpie or other marker/highlighter so it can be used for striking, jabbing, or thrusting. Also, the top screws on and off so it won't fly off when used as a weapon. You can carry it in your pocket and use it as a marker.

When I was looking for the Sharkie at the manufacturer (coldsteel.com), I couldn't figure out how to order it...because they're not selling it. I then visited a couple of websites that were selling it. Those sites said that coldsteel.com had discontinued manufacturing the Sharkies.

I wrote to coldsteel to ask if they have really discontinued making the Sharkie. Here's their reply:

[INDENT]We have redesigned the Sharkie and given it a new name. It is now called the Pocket Shark (Part# 91SPB) and will be available in Feb 2009, at the same price. [/INDENT

ColdSteel.com has probably changed the name because Sanford owns the name "Sharpie," which is obviously very similar. If you're interested in a practical product like this, you may want to check it out on coldsteel.com next month.

NOTE: John Peterson gave me the OK to post this information. I asked him for permission, because this info is a type of promotion and the Transformetrics site prohibits promoting non-Transformetrics products without John's prior permission. John asked me to reiterate the policy and tell you that I had asked for and received his permission.
