The superman pushup is shown in the back of PYTP. It is shown with lots of other pushup variations, and noted as a very intense abdominal move. I recently started practicing to perform this movement, and today I was able to complete my first repetitions. An ultimate progression for me will be to complete the superman wheel pushup from standing, and I am hoping/figuring this is a good complementary exercise to help with the wheel variant.

I credit my increase in strength in my abdominals to the feet elevated pushups variations, pull ups, and DVR work I have been doing the past weeks/months.

Matt,

I think this is a good approach. You've got a plan and are doing things incrementally. Superman wheel rollout are tough. The first time I did them I eked out eight reps by force of will and was extremely sore for weeks afterward. Needless to say I haven't had any desire to do them since.

Better to plan and do things like you are doing. BYW, many very fit individuals who have come by John's office could not even do one repetition of the Wheel Rollout. On the converse, this was a favorite exercise of the late Ronald Reagan, who liked to show off to his cabinet and advisors what he could do with them.

Thanks for the encouragement Greg, and for the tidbit about President Reagan. I know the wheel roll out is a tough movement, as I have worked it off and on in the past. One of these daya . . .

Matt,

Peggy Noonan in her book on Reagan told about an informal meeting in his hotel room where Reagan, in suit and tie, demonstrated the wheel roll out to his cabinet members and challenged them to try it. Of course, none of them could do what Dutch made look simple.

Amazing that at his age and Office President Regan could do that! Always admired him and now a new thing added to his list of greats.

Here is a link to an article Reagan did for Parade magazine about his fitness program. http://www.parade.com/news/2011/01/1...n-fitness.html

No mention of what calisthenics he did; he performed a combination of walking, swimming, horseback riding, wood chopping, ranch chores, calisthenics, hitting a boxing bag, and light weight work with dumbbells up to 15 pounds and with machines. He also had an interesting take on why you shouldn't overdevelop the muscles.
