Hi Folks,

Periodically the moderators have to decide if a link to a website passes muster. It would help if you would send John, Joe, or I the link first. Many, many websites are informational, but are disguised commercial websites for fitness programs and products. We don't allow that. Also, we don't allow personal Blogs to be promoted or linked without prior permission from John Peterson. Too, be careful of posting pictures that may be copywrited or which have addresses to other commerical website. Last, before posting a link to a video, clear it with John or Joe first.

I know this sounds like we are getting nitpicky about certain things, but you have to realize that even though this is an informational site, it is also a part of Bronze Bow Publishing. The general purpose of this site is to promote Transformetrics and other products published by Bronze Bow. All we ask is that you respect John's business, which is the livelihood for quite a number of people.

Thanks

Greg

Thanks Greg for the wonderful thread!

I don't think it is a problem at all. There is so much garbage out there, why would we want to promote it here? Also again I have to say it is disrespectful. To post for other sites and products, takes away from what John is doing here; having a system(Transformetrics)that needs very little(iso belt-chairs)yet gets the best workout ever!

I am sure if folks really thought about it,they wouldn't post this stuff(for instance if this was your site, would you want people to constantly take away from what you did?).Your thread today is a great and gentle reminder.

peace,
jason

Hi Greg,

I suggest making this into a sticky. Doing so might avoid a misunderstanding and hurt feelings.

Regards,

People don't read stickys, they become background noise, particularly if there are too many.

The forum rules cover this, though I might clarify and/or link to this this thread in the rules thread. I'll move this thread to Announcements once everyone's had a chance to read and respond to it.

Alan and Joe,

I have gotten questions lately about what is appropriate and what isn't. While the forum rules are clear, sometimes they need to be reiterated. Many sites appear to be informational, but are actually commercial fitness sites. Sometimes this is subtle. Recently a picture was posted that had a web address on it for a commercial weight training site.

The other morning I approved a post that had a link to a Baritsu site. The question I thought might be pondered by a forum reader was why this site would be acceptable and not others. Number one, this site wasn't a commercial fitness site. Number two, it wasn't overtly trying to sell a service. Number three, the content wasn't questionable. In other words they weren't selling porno, investment scams, an online pharmacy or a religious cult. Last, the site had information that pertained to the discussion in the thread, which was the martial art that author Arthur Conan Doyle credited to his character practicing.

Wikipedia and news sites are safe bets. www.how-to-get-a-six-pack-now!.com is probably a commercial site.

Blogs are a bit of a touchy subject... I know a lot of folks like to share their personal musings, which is all well and good, but it's an awful lot like putting a sign in a business's window without getting the business owners permission first. If you wouldn't do that in "real life", then don't do it here. Because this site, unlike a lot of the internet, is real life.

Actually, that's probably a pretty good way to think of this site in general, unlike a lot of the other message boards on the internet where people say anything they want we strive for a level of reality. If you wouldn't say something to someone's face, then don't type it here. If you wouldn't put a flyer in someone's windows without permission, then don't post it here.

It's no accident that we don't have a bunch of BadAss461 type screen names posting about how hardcore they are and how many women they laid over the weekend like so many other fitness message boards. We strive for a level of reality, accountability and responsibility in what is posted here. This helps to separate the real people, like you guys, from the fakes and posers that you see all over the internet.

-Joe
