Hey all,
I was big into HIT style weight room workouts and then I re-read PYTP and the other great books from John. I decided to spend 3 months away from the gym and try the methods here in a real test to see where it would take me.
Today I went with a buddy to the weight room to help him with his form on lifting. While I was there I saw the seated bench press that I used to use and I decided to see what I could do after a 3 month layoff.
To my surprise, I maxed out the machine for 6 clean reps (seated flat bench). 315 pounds, which is AT LEAST what I could do before and maybe even more. And I did a GUTS workout last night and my chest was a little sore. I think if I would have waited a day or so I could have hit 9 or 10.
It blew me away. I could see the visible results in the mirror from the JPs routines, but I didn't know if it would transfer to weights.
I feel better now than I did with the weights. I do miss the weights just a little, but that was because I enjoyed hitting it with my music going and I like the challenge of me versus weights. But even though I don't have that, I gained something new. I feel like I have my fully-equipped gym with me wherever I go. I like using the mirror and seeing the muscles and veins pop during a workout. I I don't have excuses any longer to not workout as I can do it anywhere, at almost anytime.
If anyone is interested, I'll post my workout routine. I plan to take some pictures before the end of June and post them to show the difference. As I long, long time weightlifter that has tried every routine out there, I really enjoy this. I will admit that I have found a weight room routine that gets people stronger than they probably have ever been in their lives and do ti fast without over training, but this took me to the next level. Me friends have been asking me what I have been doing because they see a difference, but I tell them it is "classified" until I verify it works, and then I will train them in JPs philosophy. The test today means I have reached that point and I am going to train the rest of them next week.
So thanks, John, for your efforts. You have done a good thing for me.
Sincerely,
Dan
