Many years ago trainers in boxing gyms would tell boxers to avoid vinegar. Farmers on the other hand would add it to the feed of aggressive cattle to make them more calm. As of recent I have been reading lots about the health benefits of apple cider vinegar and it seems it is almost miraculous in some cases.

I have tried small amounts: a teaspoon or 2 a day. It seems to be beneficial.

I'm intrigued.

Anyone know what the deal is on vinegar?

Hey Jun,

If you want to know more you need to get the Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar Miracle Health System book.If you want to try the Braggs Health drink buy Braggs Organic Raw-Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar. It has how to use it right on the label. You can sometimes find it in a grocery store but I by it at Whole Foods.Don't just use any vinegar,if you get the book you will see why.

There is alot of health benifits from this.I've been taking it for about 3 years.I benifited health wise, wieght loss, energy and cramps in my calves and toes are non-exsistant now.I notice a big differance when I don't drink it.

Hey Mike,

You brought up a good benefit of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. That is potassium. Especially during the summer I often get cramps in my feet and calves when training. A glass of water with a tablespoon of OACV works wonders.

I never heard of vinegar being bad for Boxers, and love salads, regular vinegar and Braggs both are good for me.

MikeNY,

From what I remember reading in the Braggs book they use charcoal to make vinegar they sell in the store.Taste like vinegar!I would stick to the Bragg's.

Hello Michael,

I don't think boxers were asked to avoid vinegar because its bad for them. I think it may be about that it apparently calms one's humor. Aggressive holstein bulls were fed with it to calm them down and help them lose their aggression. ( Aggressive Holstein bulls can get so aggressive they have been known to break the ring in their nose and wreck havoc ).
If you google "Jack Dempsey diet advice" ...the instructions are "no vinegar!" with an exclamation mark.
Personally, I am not against anything that calms my humor. So if indeed ACV has a calming effect on me its a plus and not otherwise.
Some boxers would soak their hands in vinegar: not sure what that was about. I didn't ask.
Thanks for the info about Bragg's. In addition, I will try to find his book about Apple Cider Vinegar. They carry his brand at the local supermarket.

hey Friends,

I have to admit that I'm puzzled that Organic Apple Cider Vinegar would have been anything but highly regarded by boxers. Noel Johnson swore by it and used it every day as part of his health regimen. as stated here, there is nothing better for treating cramps than Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.that has 'The Mother' clearly evident.

John,

I've come across that advice about no vinegar in some of the courses on the Sandow site. I am not sure where that advice came from either. Perhaps this was about the time they started to process it with charcoal?

My uncle trained Professional Boxer's and was Italian decent both he and the Boxer's ate salads and Italian foods with vinegar such as olives. The soaking your hands in vinegar is old time, that is to harden the hands, originally used for Bare Knuckle Boxing. One reason for success in Boxing among Italian-Americans was the tradition of thier use and skill in Bare Knuckle Boxing forms.

White vinegar, any kind of vinegar sold in the supermarket is bad, even the apple cider vinegar
unless organic unfiltered like Braggs. Besides having potassium in it has calcium, which probably
has a calming effect as well as anything else found in an apple.
