The exercises are actuually enjoyable to do and when your done, you feel great and energised, instead of that just-got-hit-by -a-truck feeling you get from lifting heavy weights.
Not only am I stronger than I've been in ages, but aches and pains and tightness that I've had for years, and assumed I'd always have, are gone!
It's comforting to know that never again will I have to go to a gym, change a weight plate, look for a spotter, trip over a dumbell, etc. I can perform these exercises anywhere, any time.
I can't say enough good things about John Peterson and his publications. There are a lot of people out there charging a ton of money for a lot less information. If you follow the information in this book, your life will improve greatly. What other endorsement do you need?
John Peterson learned many of these exercises from Charles Atlas. I was pleased to see that John Peterson acknowledges his debt to Charles Atlas and his system of Dynamic Tension in this book as well as on the Bronze Bow Publishing web-site. I was also very pleased that Mr. Peterson explains to the reader that Dynamic Tension is not isometrics, as so many people erroneously believe. Isometrics are static exercises that increase strength dramatically but not much beyond that. Dynamic Tension--also referred to as Dynamic Self Resistance--is indeed dynamic, meaning one moves throughout the full range of motion of the muscles. Such exercises develop not just muscle strength, but muscle endurance and size. John Peterson is doing an excellent job of keeping the natural Charles Atlas Dynamic Tension method of fitness, strength building, and bodybuilding alive and well. For that he is to be commended and recommended. The legacy of Charles Atlas is too great to allow it to slide into oblivion. John Peterson comes the closest of anyone living--that I'm aware of--to matching Charles Atlas in physique. Since Charles Atlas was twice voted THE WORLDS MOST PERFECTLY DEVELOPED MAN, that's an amazing accomplishment on the part of John Peterson. That fact alone should inspire you to follow his teachings and example.
There is an exercise apparatus called the Bully X-Treme that is fraudulently using the name and likeness of John Peterson to promote and sell their product. Keep that in mind if you are thinking of purchasing a Bully X-Treme. Keep in mind also that such an apparatus in not necessary in the least. (If you're interested in isometrics, John Peterson also has an excellent book available that deals exclusively with isometrics titled The Isometric Power Revolution. This book contains recent advances in the understanding of isometrics that further increase their effectiveness in building great strength rapidly.)
Pushing Yourself To Power contains sound up-to-date nutritional information, excellent methods of mental focus, motivation, and mind-over-matter in muscle building, profiles of great athletes who used the exercise methods contained in this book--athletes such as Charles Atlas and Rocky Marciano--as well as the very best-of-the-best of the non-apparatus exercises. (Exercises used by the Special Forces by the way.)
I've been doing these exercises for thirty-four years, since I was twenty. I gained seventy pounds of muscle over a five year period from age twenty to twenty five. There is no reason on God's earth for you to waste your money, time, and living space on barbells or any other exercise gadget such as a Bow-Flex. You have already been divinely bestowed with the finest exercise machine in existence: your own body.
The exercises presented in Pushing Yourself To Power will take you as far as you wish to go, especially with the free personal advice John gives his readers at his message board on the Bronze Bow Publishing site. For those of us who are fans of the late Charles Atlas and his marvelous system of Dynamic Tension, I speak a word of gratitude to John Peterson for keeping Atlas and his legacy alive in this exciting and highly readable book. The exercises work, and work wonders. They will continue to work wonders as long as humankind, and men such as John Peterson, endures. Continued Divine blessings to you John!

Furthermore, it has produced results. My wife looked at me and said that I was ripped. Now I've done it all: high volume weight lifting, powerlifting, hi intensity training, gym memberships, protien shakes, get-ripped pills, you name it. I used to spend more time getting ready and getting to the gym than I do in my workouts.
Buy this book. It's spiral bound, travels wherever you want. You devise your own workout and push yourself at your own pace. If you want Richard Simmons to dance with you and tell you what to do, this is not for you. If you listen to your body it will tell you when to push harder and when enough is enough.
Actually, I didn't like the format, but I understand why he wrote it this way. He covers body parts rather than formulate complete template workouts. At first this seems like a bummer, until you realize he's giving you tools that you must use to shape yourself. Because he doesn't know you, he's never met you, he doesn't know which tool (excercise) will work best for your body type for how many repetition and how many times a week. I finally understand that I will be doing these excercises for the rest of my life. Hope I look as good as he does when I'm an old man like him. By the way, go to his website. He has updated his haircut. Hahaha.
There is just the right amount of nutrition info but not too much.
His description and instruction is very detailed, not like others who only have a starting and finishing photo.
If you do not collect or spend a lot of time reading exercise books for entertainment, you will have all you need with just this purchase.
That's the part I enjoy the most. Like many people, I have very little free time to enjoy a workout. I can close the door of my office, and knock out many of the exercises right at my desk. By the time I go home I got a good chunk of my workout done. I even do some of the abdominal exercises wating for my train!
Mr. Peterson also includes a very logical, well thought out section on nutrition. We all know we have to eat healthier, but Mr Peterson presents it in an interesting way.
I've also read The Miracle Seven and his new book, Isometric Power Revolution. With these books, you can design any kind of routine that will make you stronger, healthier and will get you whistled at on the beach.
