I haven't posted here for some time...
My 30 year old son, Jon passed away on October 20 from a heroin and alcohol overdose. My ex wife (his mom) found him dead in bed - I was on my way over to their house to pick him up for an appointment.
We have faith and trust that he's in a great place - God's rehab if you will...

In my state, we have 6 deaths per week due to opiates / opioids overdoses.

Here is his obiturary:

Keyway, So sorry for your loss.

This is a much larger problem than most people realize.

The reasons that these (overdoses) happens are many. Accidental overdose of legally prescribed medication is high on that list. When a life is on the line the reason is not important, legal, illegal or otherwise. What is important is that the person gets the help they need ASAP.

Several states have made training and Narcan very accessible. If you have a family member that is at risk check with your local EMS provider to see if training is available and check with your pharmacist to see if Narcan is available to the public in your area.

Hello keyway,

After I had read what you had written I was shocked. Did not know how to respond. Unfortunately, nothing drives home the reality of a tragic situation quite like seeing or experiencing on a personal level.

Keyway, I was rocked when I read how this particular epidemic (and it is an epidemic) struck you in such a personal way. This is far, far worse than anyone can imagine.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I am truly sorry for your loss.

My brother-in-law was unfortunate enough to be involved with heroin as well.

Although his passing in January of ’17 was not a result of the substance itself, his shooting was a direct result of his involvement with “the world”.

The effects on the surviving family is indescribable. I do my best to empathize with my wife and in-laws.

For those who may brush off this addiction, a reliable source provided what I believe to be an understandable explanation for it.

The first time one uses heroin, they obtain a certain “high”. They then are in constant pursuit of that same experience. However, they will never get it. Period. With most other substances (alcohol, pot, etc.), the users are able to obtain a similar experience with increased dosages. With heroin, that is not the case.

Again, I am truly sorry for your loss.

Hello Rob,

After reading what you, Keyway, and Gary wrote it became obvious that this epidemic crosses all social, racial, age, and gender classifications. It's almost as though people really are becoming zombies.
